I make cookies for Meijer, Mike :D

And it's just an uber-huge grocery. Health/organic food, massive ethnic section, awesome butcher block, FANTASTIC beer selection. They do have some eco-friendly clothing and a section specially-devoted to Sabres and Bills gear, but it's not a superchain.

NO DON'T EVER COMPARE WEGMANS TO WALMART OMG. There's no way to explain Wegmans, you have to experience it. Next time you come to Buff, let me know and I'll take you.

It's just a really nice SUPERMARKET. The Nordstrom's of supermarkets.

Now, can we get back to my really nice thread about Sabres close encounters?

(Maybe you supermarket groupies can go start your own thread on

Last trip to Buffalo, Butler pulled a stop & go at Niagra Square and kind of gave a sort of a waive. Same day we walked down to HSBC enjoying the awesome weather, went inside to check out the Sabres Store, wanted to get a pic of the wall of awesome from the winter classic and Montador came walking out in sabres garb and gave a nod.

Other than that, meeting some of the boys and Harry Neale during the morning skate on opening day with Tara, Missy & Phil.

Good times. :D

After reading Squanto lamenting how sorry he was for offering that "cock" Connolly a beer, preferring instead to "kick him in the teeth", it set me to thinking: Has anybody else had an encounter with a Sabre, memorable or not.

My closest encounter was when Staford looked toward the section I was sitting in once. He was then inspired to not score a goal. That's about it!

By the way, Squanto, what was that beer story anyway?

Back in 2003, a friend of mine were at work the night of the NCAA national championship game. (The year Syracuse won.) After working about 20 minutes, we both decided there was no way in hell we were going to sit at work and NOT watch that game, so we took the rest of the night off and shot up to Buffalo Wild Wings on Elmwood.

After being there for about 20 minutes, we looked over in the corner and saw Jay McKee, Rhett Warrener, Denis Hamel, and Tim Connolly were sitting at a table. We both had some liquid courage, so we walked over. I didn't want to be schoolgirl giddy or anything, so I just said that we were big fans, and that it was cool to see them out. Then I offered to buy all 4 of them a beer. They laughed, and Hamel seemed a little shocked that someone would have done that. McKee said that he appreciated it, but they were all set. It seemed to me it was more like they didn't want to take our money to be honest.

Said take care, enjoy the game, and went back to our booth. I thought it was cool enough that we had talked to them for a couple seconds. We probably could have stayed a bit longer, but I didn't want to be intrusive. At halftime, the manager came over with two beers for us, and said it was from the 4 of them. Gave them the nod you give when someone hooks you up, and that was that. Just thought it was great that they were regular guys who treated us like regular guys.

I've also been at Jim Kelley's house in Angola a couple times. He's a GREAT guy, super nice. Was there to do some work on his computer that his daughter had asked me to help with, and Jim insisted we have dinner and go out on the boat first. Didn't touch his computer that night, but did the second night. The memorabilia in that guy's office would make you stain your shorts. He has more handwritten notes from Sabres players than you can imagine. I also saw (and touched) the shirt he was wearing when Hasek attacked him. He had it hanging on his door, signed by at least 50 members of the hockey media. It was just stunning. He tried to pay me for the work, which I wouldn't accept since I already had gotten two dinners, a boat ride, and just to talk to the guy. He insisted I take something, and gave me a complete set of unused season tickets from the last season at the Aud. It's intact, every ticket still attached. Might be the coolest thing I own.

I was not impressed with his attitude during his locker cleanout interview.

In his defense, Bucky was being his typical pretentious, asshole self. I was impressed that Connolly was actually dignifying Bucky's questions with a response.

Wegmans is consistently rated by Consumer Report as the best grocery store in the country. Just saying.

I saw Hecht on his way to a game (I'm assuming based on the date, time, and direction in which he was driving). Pulled up next to him at a light. He was driving a black truck.

I saw Briere twice when he was here, once pumping gas and once just chilling on a bench at the Galleria. I'm surprised I didn't see him more because his kids went to the school that is my high school's biggest rival.

I sat behind Byron Brown and his son on a flight back from NYC four years ago. Learned a lot from hearing him explain things to his son haha.

Working at a movie theater is really the way to go. I worked at the one on Transit forevvveerrr and had my fair share of Sabre encounters. I remember there was this crazy night where it was incredibly slow and I was ripping tickets and counting skin cells to pass time, when all at once half the team came in, separately. I was SO excited because after I'd direct one of them, ANOTHER one would come.

My favorite was definitely when Drew Stafford gave me a dollar because I heckled him for spitting on my window (long story). And I had some of Goose's broken stick that I had him sign at Dave and Adams, and he recognized it which made me feel super creepy for having it. From what I've experienced though, they all seem really kind and gracious towards their fanbase which is A+ in my book.

Mike, Wegman's is a Rochester-based but prevalent-in-Buffalo grocery store. It's huge, and sooooo nice. Damn classy groceries.

And it's cheap as hell.

Cheap as hell. Right.

Cheaper compared to tops.

Yeah...no. Maybe only when an Aldi goes up nearby.

Dude it is way cheaper. Wegmans is cheaper than tops it's almost guaranteed dude. My buddy has 3 children and he said if he shops at tops he wouldn't be able to feed them all. Might be an exaggeration but still.

Other than their deals with ze shoppers club card, Wegmans is definitely a little bit more pricey. Tell him to try Aldis and Quality [before they go out of business].

Met Pat LaFontaine in March at my hotel for YMCA states. He was there for his son's hockey tourney.

Hahahaha...that's the best part, they always seem to come in when it's SUPER dead and you're just about ready to commit Regal suicide because you're so damn bored.

Tyler Myers recognized me too! He came in the day after he scored that awesome shootout goal in Tampa, and I told him how amazing it was. Then a few weeks later at Catwalk for Charity I reminded him about the encounter and he was like, "Yeah I remember! You also wrote about it on your blog!" I was like, "WHAT?! You read my blog?!" I was so flattered haha.

Stafford also recognized me at Catwalk because one time at the movies he lost his iPhone and I gave him a flashlight to help him find it. I was like, "Hey...do you remember when you lost your phone at the movies and I helped you find it?" And he was like, "Pshh...you didn't help me find it, I found it!" And I was like, "Uhh I totally gave you a flashlight, without it you totally wouldn't have found it."
