So I got laid off today, but I'm not panicking.

I get paid for this week and next since our paychecks were delayed a week from the beginning.
I get paid for the 3+ weeks of vacation I had accrued. So I'm okay for at least a month.

The reasoning was questionable at best, and while I don't agree with the justifications they gave, I do agree that I was not a good fit for B&L. Everyone here knows that I have been looking to find a job elsewhere for some time.

I don't want to delve too far into the justification for my termination. There were definitely some growing pains as I transitioned into a new career, however I don't want to shift any blame off of myself. I am realistic, and in everything there is fault on both sides. Ultimately I feel that the company was looking for a particular mold of person, and I never felt like I fit, nor did I ever try to fit that mold. This contributed to a certain lack of comfort from the beginning of my employment, to nervousness and a lack of confidence in my work, and to others perception of my work throughout the past two years.

The short story:
CV Laid off
CV fine with this
CV will be okay financially

Yeah, it's all good. I mean I'm a little scared honestly, but I was completely prepared for this and staring it in the face anyways.

Sorry to hear you're now unemployed. Sounds like you didn't see yourself there long term though, so in a way that is a benefit. People can end up trapped in jobs they hate, and at least you avoided that in this case.

But I also know how stressful being unemployed can be, and how hard it can be to not take it personally when you're having trouble finding a job. So I sympathize with any negative emotions it generates.

But I feel like you'll eventually find a job where they'll appreciate you for who you are. We all like you around here and we're not complete idiots.

Thank you :D

Yeah, just trying to keep it in perspective be realistic, and enjoy some of the positive aspects. Not waking up at 6:45 tomorrow for example.

Maybe you shouldn't have spent so much work time on the junkie boards.

On the other hand, being a Sabres fan does come first. Make sure your next employer understands this.

Egh, when I had work, I was never online. When I didn't I was. I think that was true for any employee. One of the problems was I got to a point where I was consistently slow because I had:

1 project stalled that reached into the federal government with two different agencies disagreed with each other
1 project stalled because the municipality didn't want to authorize funds
1 project stalled because we hadn't obtained the necessary easements in order to design the sewer main, and the municipality elected a new supervisor that wasn't entirely on board
1 project in review by the client so I can't really do anything

and no one giving me more work when I asked for it.

Hopefully this will bring you other opportunities that will make you happy.

I'm sorta confused. Is it laid off or fired? Fired sounds harsh, though.

My buddy got fired from his job 18 months ago over something stupid. It's a funny story but I won't bother with it. He got hired a few weeks later doing almost the same thing with a bigger, better company, and now he has to suffer sitting in a press box at the Super Bowl every year while putting high-light clips together. That was a real tough turn of events...oh and I forgot that he makes more now.

I get free Super Bowl garb out of the deal too.

Laid off. I don't quite understand the difference, just that I can collect unemployment pretty much asap.
