I never watched this game but I just saw the highlights and what a choke by Boston. Even though Boston was really injured I bet Julien gets fired, there is no way you should lose a series after being up 3-0.

Oh this was so good to see. I hate both teams, but after the Sabres lost to Boston I really wanted to see them go down, and they did in the worst way possible. Losing game 7 after being up 3-0 in the series, it can't get any better if you really hate a team.

They are only the third team in the history of the NHL to blow a 3-0 lead in a series also.

Congrats to Philly, they deserved that with how they played the last four games.

There are 2 schools of thought on what fans want after their team is ousted from the playoffs:

(1) You want the team that beat you to get their asses kicked! Nothing better than seeing those smug assholes get sent packing, right!

(2) You want the team that beat you to continue beating teams and win the f-ing championship. Why? Because losing in the first round to a team that royally choked in round 2 doesn't say a lot about YOUR team if they lost to them 4 games to 2 in round 1.

I always go with (2). If you're gonna get ousted, might as well be by the team nobody else could beat either. I don't get caught up in the "serves them right" nonsense, because nobody else but you perceives that, while your teams rep nationally is more important.

No shame in losing to the eventual champ.

I like seeing teams that deserve it win, and I don't think the Bruins did.

All that ideological stuff aside, I would think you'd be more concerned about how this all makes the Sabres look. Better to have the team you beat win it all. You're a lot more easily dismissed when the team that beat YOU gets kicked out in the next round. Then you are just one of the many forgettable participants in the playoffs---vs. looking like you gave a really good fight to the eventual champ. Think about it.

Ultimately, the national impression of your team is more important than having little grudges satisfied.

But if anyone watched the series and knows the sabres a little bit would know that they were a bit beat up (Connelly, Hect, Vanek)... and there was some extremely questionable officiating... not saying it should be an excuse... the power play or lack there of was certainly a nail in the coffin... in this case, Im extremely happy Boston got bounced! couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of d-bags...

not saying I like philly, just glad to see boston get bounced... now for the habs to oust philly....

I knew somebody would come back with this, which is why I alomst inlcuded in that previous post, this:

NOBODY is gonna bother with all the details and picky excuses that hometeam fans have to justify their loss. On a national level, all it looks like is that the team that beat YOU, is the same kinda team that massively chokes. The obvious question: YOU couldn't beat THEM? In reg season series OR post season? See what I mean? Nobody's gonna analize beyond that.

Better to be beaten by the eventual champ.

I'm really sorry to see Boston go down like that. Tough loss.

Well that's your opinion and that's fine. Once the Sabres are out, then the only thing that matters is that there will be no cup in Buffalo. How the team that beat us looks is irrelevant because it does us little good towards that ultimate goal of winning the cup. The national impression of the team does nothing to increase its chances of winning the cup the following season and does not matter.

Actually...everyone should WANT the national impression of the team to be WORSE because that means fewer games on fucking versus.

fuck that noise. national exposure means more familiarity with the team, and thus, more fans abroad. i wouldnt be where i am today without ESPN and ESPN 2 frequently showing the sabres in the late 90s.

and versus is fine. they are no worse then where espn was before the lockout, minus they cant bring aboard gary thorne.

In honesty, having the Bruins choke away a 3-0 series lead doesn't make the Sabres look any worse.

Even from round to round the team changes, Boston lost Sturm and Lucic for the rest of the second round but had both of them for the Sabres. Boston was a stronger team for the first 7 or so games they played because they weren't as injured. When Sturm and Lucic went out for Boston, they literally had no one else to rely on. And this was after they went up 3-0, the team got royally fucked in injuries and lost, and also made history.

You don't want to complain about injuries with the Sabres, but look at Boston's team that lost and how injured they became and eventually lost. Philly was injured, but now the only ones they have out are Boucher and Carter, Gagne came back with a vengeance already and Briere ripped Boston apart.
