I am impressed, Mike.

They played the division championship game at Key Arena, but only because of scheduling conflicts.

It's too bad the Turbo left Detroit almost 20 years ago, because you could have grown up watching the Gait brothers.

Watching this celebration reminds me of when I saw the Bandits win it all live in 2008. That was probably my finest moment as a sports fan.

well, the tigers were handling the bosox, so..

i like the NLL, i would like to see it get some more exposure, maybe even SOME espn recognition. even a blurb on the espn.com front page. however, the NLL could be on the cusp of something bigger.

Well, they have a lot of obstacles to climb. First, they have to stop hemorrhaging clubs every season. For the first time in a long time they seem to be heading into the next season with all the clubs from the previous season. After 2011, they're gonna be expanding again if the market is healthy. I know Vancouver wants to bring the Ravens back, and there's rumblings Halifax wants a team, too.

Second, they need to wrangle up local TV deals and a national contract, too. Toronto had all of their games on TSN2 this season, so that's good for them, but I was mad all season TWCS13 didn't pick up a single Bandits game and instead showed high school sports. Having the title game on Versus may be a hint of things to come, as Versus used to have a game of the week deal with the NLL. Given that their NHL schedule revolves around Mondays and Tuesdays in the regular season, a pair of games each Friday and Saturday for the NLL (not tape delayed, mind you) would be awesome.

Lastly, and this is just something I think needs to happen, is the NLL needs to spur a joint initiative with the NCAA to grow box lacrosse at the D1 level. Most D1 schools that have hockey arenas could just play the lacrosse season in the summer. It would aid in the popularity of boxla in America a metric ton, which would help the NLL grow with the number of home-grown prospects exploding.

From what I've seen of lacrosse, it's interesting enough to garner national attention. Why it remains a fringe sport is beyond me.

I think one of the things we need to look at is stopping the NFL and MLB from maintaining a monopoly of sorts on the sports media scene.

How about Hopkins getting completely DESTROYED by Duke 18-5?
I was hoping Cornell would lose since they play Syracuse really well, though I don't know how they'll do in a neutral setting.

That was a great game last night Phil. The Rock played well but faltered at the end. I don't watch much NLL as TSN never says when the games are on but I watched the game last night and was very entertained. I love watching lacrosse. My mom never let me play as a kid and that rattle me. I think I could have been good at lacrosse. That Rabil for Washington was a buzzball. I hope Vancouver gets a team back I'd love to go down to Vancouver and watch a game live.

Paul Rabil is one of the best Americans in the game today. He plays like greased lightning.

I just can't wait until the Bandits build the team for after JT retires and they bring the glory back to Buffalo. 16,000+ fans every game kind of demand excellence.

Well it wavers between 16,000+ and a sell-out each game. Bandits still hold the record for total attendance over a single season. It would do the Bandits wonders to offer season tickets around $12 a game in the 300 level.

its amazing, to me, that as sweet as box lax is, buffalo sells out an NHL arena. even though HSBC is smaller, its still impressive.

18,690 is smaller for an NHL arena? That actually kinda surprises me. But the attendance in Buffalo doesn't. If I had to compare the Bandits fans to any other fanbase, it'd be Habs fans. Bandits fans expect excellence, but aren't as belligerent. In fact, NLL fans in general are pretty awesome. I've partied with Rochester and Boston fans before and after games in Buffalo.

The Colorado Mammoth play in the Pepsi Center, and they routinely used to sell out the barn, too. But years of mediocrity have dwindled the fan-base.

some arenas are 17,000, and alot are 19,000, and some are 20,000 + id say buffalo is average.

note: its 13th largest, which shocked me.

I miss the bandits... being in pittsburgh now, I haven't been to a game in a while... The last game i went to was the 2006 championship game.... I was also at the '92, '93, and '96 championship games... so 2008 was the first one i missed... its such a great game... I really wish it would get a bit more popular... ESPN needs to stop with poker and cup stacking and actually get back to SPORTS! ... and I think a team in Pittsburgh would be awesome... it really is a great sports town... the support the Pens and Stillers pretty darn well... the Pirates are pretty poor, but they have to be making money, lol... and its a great park...

With the new arena, I think a new lax tenant would be AWESOME!

Unfortunately, pro lax in Pittsburgh has failed twice now. I don't see the NLL putting a team back there unless there's intense interest. That's why I think the NLL needs to convince the NCAA to start box lax at the D1 level.
