imagine homer in front of the goalie one shift, and vanek the other. A. the sabres would score alot of goals, and B. the sabres would draw alot of penalties.

That right there is why I want Holmstrom here. But, like you said, if he doesn't retire, he'll probably re-sign in Detroit.

Exactly. I believe he made only 2.25 this season. Throw 2.75-3 at him for two years and stick him immediately on the first PP unit and possibly first line.

I think a strong go at Malkin would suit us nicely. Save Vanek, Myers, Miller, and Ennis - the rest are expendable.

Malkin is making $8.5...I don't think he's going anywhere but to a team with millions upon millions to spare even after the trade.

Joe Pavelski, I think he'd be a perfect fit

Give them Roy, Pominville, and now they have one winger for Crosby, and a second line center behind Crosby who can still play well. And a pick.

If we're going to dream, I'd trade Roy & Stafford to Edmonton for the 1st overall pick and then I'd trade Connolly & Gerbe to Boston for the 2nd overall pick to take Taylor & Tyler 1-2.

;)

Seriously though, I'd like to see Cullen signed as an UFA to help the team's center depth.

I would love to see Cullen here as well, but if he's going to come in to help with center depth, there's some tinkering to be done. I mean, a trade for Malkin or signing Marleau is going to require one of Roy or Connolly shipped out and the other relegated to the second line. Cullen would be slotted in as a third line center...would Cullen signing here signal the end of the Goose, or would the Sabres have the most expensive fourth line center in the league?

I'd see it stacking up as such: Malkin/Marleau (1st), Roy/Connolly (2nd), Cullen (3rd), Goose (4th). Shitdamn, that's an expensive center line-up.

I liked Phils Idea of sending Butler, Stafford, Roy, and Gerbe to Clags for Iginla and Glencross then freeing some cap room to add marleau.

I just put together 1,000+ word post about acquiring Iginla and Kaberle, but scrapped it because the math was starting to make my head hurt.

So, someone else make it work. :)

The issue isn't so much the money as not having the trade assets to get Iginla AND Kaberle.

Burke wants a king's ransom and a 1st rounder for Kaberle.

I'm guessing the Flames would want that much, or more, for the heart and face of their franchise.

If you pencil in Malkin @ $8.7M per yr against the cap, you will likely be pushing $20M against the cap for 4 centers with that lineup.

This year, the Sabres spent less than $12M in cap space on Roy, Connolly, Gaustad, and Mair.

That deal doesn't clear cap space.

Outgoing:
Butler - 850k
Stafford - 1.9M
Roy - 4M
Gerbe - 850k

Total Outgoing - $7.6M

Incoming:
Iginla - 7M
Glencross - 1.2M

Total Incoming - $8.2M [plus you have two roster spots to fill.....]

I can't see how you could realistically clear other space as it's unlikely the Sabres could purely dump contracts like say Pominville to make room for the insane deal that Marleau is likely to get on the open market.

He said THEN clearing cap room. And it was just a passing comment in an AIM conversation with him.

Also, Marleau is going to make 7M, but that's just my own personal hunch.

I wouldn't touch Marleau. He's a better winger than a center and I don't see him being that clutch centerpiece guy the Sabres need.

Brad Richards, Evgeni Malkin, and Joe Thornton are the dream #1 centers that I think would be fits for what the Sabres need right now.

But, the Sabres won't go out and get those types of players.
