I have to admit, i'm torn.

These are child predators who could very well pose a risk to society. From what I understand, people dont get 'cured' of this.

On the other hand, they committed a crime, they were punished, and they have served their sentence. It seems unfair to just keep them in jail.

Ultimately, I know i'll never be in jail for child rape/child porn/whatthefuckever-having to do with child abuse. But...i dont like the government taking liberties with...peoples liberty.

Well, let's go with your understanding that pedos never get cured. If that's the case, then pedos need to be given life sentences like murderers are.

Agreed, that should probably happen in the first place. Or we could just put them on a fucking island somewhere, like one of those islands the USAF uses to test bombs...

BUT, currently the legal system doesnt give these guys life, so, it is incorrect and probably illegal for them to be held indefinitely. Although, i'm sure not going to rally to their cause.

Am i crazy for thinking that this is a reaction to preds only getting 2-3 year sentences, when everyone and their mom knows it shouldn't be less then 15?

I think a lot of the problems with the laws are that they don't have enough distinction between a grown man who preys on a 12 year old girl and the 18 year old who slept with his 17 year old girlfriend. Once they get a better system in place to classify these offenders then I would be much more on board with keeping the serious offenders behind bars. But again as long as the poor guys who get caught doing something consensual and "normal" don't get lumped in with the the "free candy" freak shows then yeah, keep the sickos in a cage.

Also i would be completely cool with a guy who sexes up a kid to have his balls removed as part of getting a lighter sentence. Once had a patient sit and look me dead in the eye while he told me how much his 8 year old daughter wanted him to have sex with her just after i had talked with his wife and watched her cry for an hour.

Can you cure a pedophile by cutting his nuts off? If so, we could let them out early if they agree to the surgery.

I think this is bullshit.

I consider it cruel and unusual to tell a person they'll get out of jail on a certain date, then 20 years later when that date comes, not letting them out.

If the problem is with high risk offenders, make that distinction BEFORE sentencing.
Lock em away forever, I don't care, just be up-front about it.

I have to agree with this, basically.

As a hypothetical though, suppose in the years this guy has been in jail there have been studies done that confirm that his 'illness' isnt curable, and that he's simply not compatible with society. If we then change the sentences of new offenders to reflect this new found evidence, ie, longer/life sentences, is it not somehow morally acceptable to retroactively lengthen the terms given out to past offenders? Why should the date a crime was committed have anything to do with the 'proper' sentence once all the 'science is in'? Of course thats a slippery slope, are we going to go put people who have already served their sentences BACK to jail, even if they've served their sentence?

Fuck if I know. But if I had a kid who was molested/kidnapped/killed by some pervert who HAD been in jail for some crime against a child, and was released after his sentence, and then did that shit to MY kid...I'd have no problem with all released pedophiles being put back forever. Assuming we had some sort of panel able to judge the circumstances...like someone else mentioned, i'm not talking about some 20 year old mutual-consensually banging his 17 year old girlie in the back of his car, i'm talking about the kid touchers.

I don't know...even if the sentencing guidelines were updated, making it retroactive is a tough sell in my book.
It's not like these guys are re-offending while in jail.

I suppose you could put ones believed to be high risk after release on a near impossible parole regimen.
When I think about this rationally (which is hard to do because these people are scum), the SCOTUS just legalized what people wanted to arrest Bush and Cheney for. Holding people indefinitely, with no charge and no trial.
Last time I checked that was unconstitutional...especially with US citizens ;)

how about the tactic the cops in LA (i think) just used? promising amnesty if these parole violators showed up. then they all got arrested.

that is fucking bullshit. it's one thing to send them a letter saying they need to collect a prize or something, but to promise amnesty? horrible, horrible stuff. 1984.

Definitely NOT LA...or any other California city.
LA is a sanctuary city.

Egh...I disagree.
Only the federal government can grant amnesty...these guys deserve it on stupidity alone.

This is just cops trying to bring people (illegal alien criminals) in to go back to jail...If their feelings are hurt I actually consider it a bonus.

Why weren't they deported before having the opportunity to violate their probation? That's the real question.

I think they should stop doing experiments on animals and use pedophiles instead. Animals did nothing wrong, they don't deserve it. Pedophiles are worse than animals, they deserve it. At least brand their foreheads so they can't hide what they are.

Hopefully this isn't 'fucked' of me to say... But I don't think Jail is even the right medium to approach the whole issue.

These people are sick, it's not something they can control -- It's the way they're born. It's not for financial, property or vengeful reasons its just who they are. Some people are heterosexual, some are homosexual, some are pedosexuals. Absolutely it's unacceptable and shouldn't be in the same sentence as the aforementioned two, however we have to stop looking at it as something that you can 'learn' from through punishment.

I don't have the answer, just jailing them isn't going to change them
