Torres is already sitting outside the ACC with his hockey bags waiting for his agent to tell him his deal with Toronto is in.

I think he might be waiting for a while. :)

Yea, I wish we could get a guy like him for our RW though, a gritty top 6 RW to match up with Vanek would be wonderful.

Might as well fast track Kassian then. I see no reason for him to go back to Junior after watching the Memorial Cup.

He was absolutely beastly. He had shifts in the Memorial Cup game that had me drooling on myself. His first shift, he was a monster.

That isn't to say he played a bad shift, either. He backchecks quick and always has one eye on defense, it seems. He just has shifts where you go, "WOW".

Exactly there were enough WOW shifts to make me believe that he doesn't need to go back to junior. Its unfortunate he can't play in Portland next year. Because he was a man amongst boys in junior.

The shift that led to his assist, he absolutely COULD NOT be taken off the puck. In (I think) game four versus Barrie, he had the puck behind the net and NO ONE could get it from him, also resulting in an assist. He is so strong on the puck.

I honestly expect his ELC done by the end of next week.

If Kassian can be like Big Buff to draw people away from the two other guys and stand in front of the net and take abuse get him on this team, him and Vanek switching from the front of the net would be great, Vanek in front of the net, Kassian goes into the corners, and Roy sets it up and can shoot and score also.

Big Buff gives Toews and Kane LOTS of space. A guy who can put in some rebounds is a great move to make also.

I'll assume Kassian is already signed to an entry level deal. Otherwise, I believe he could be signed and called up mid-season? I could be wrong about both things though. Anyways, he will(hopefully) fill that gaping hole as a top 6 gritty RW that we desperately need, and everyone wishes they had. Wouldn't have minded A. Ladd, but I'm sure any offer Carolina made to Darcy made him lose his breath.

He shouldn't have signed one, because if they sign their ELD the clock starts on their contract even if they play in the NHL or not.

ya, my point is that if we sign him mid-season when he's 20, then we can send him down(unless they have a rule against it). I'm sure someone knows if this is possible(legal).

You have to be 20 by September 15th to play in the AHL.

That rule I know, the date may be off, but it has to be before the season starts to be eligible.

My question is that if you sign your entry deal to the parent club after Sept 15th, hence becoming a Sabre, then can you he sent down afterwards? It just seems like a loophole to me.

That's actually not true. I was told that Myers' contract would have been paused if he had been sent back to juniors before he hit 10 games in the NHL.

Uh, I really don't know what to make of this comment about Grier during his presser today:

The forward noted that he will be active in recruiting free agents from around the league to come to Buffalo once the free agency period begins. Current team mate and former friend in San Jose Craig Rivet was helpful in bringing Grier back to Buffalo last off-season, he added.

Sounds like somebody is perhaps setting himself up for a post-playing career still in the NHL.

That makes a ton of sense, given that his career as a player is drawing to a close.

I know the 10 game limit applies to years of service towards UFA status.

Not sure about whether it burns a year off the ELC or not.....

It does affect the ELC. If he had returned to the WHL after his 9th game, he would still have all three years of his ELC intact. But playing that 10th game activated his first year.

I totally forgot about that rule if you have Junior eligibility left.
