I don't recall any previous Presidents invoking their children while discussing policy and a current crisis at a press conference.

Beck is an ass and Obama said something stupid.

That statement of his was a headline on Drudgereport for a day and a half.

Maybe he was just trying to put a family perspective on things, and how it affects us all. Lord forbid the president try to be a little personable in his robotic sort of way.

meh...he unnecessarily inserted his daughter into the discussion of the largest domestic catastrophe of his administration.

It was a dumb thing to say.
He's developing quite a track record for that sort of thing...to bad he only holds 1 press conference a Year.
Maybe he can invite Beck to the white house to have a beer and talk about it ;)

I couldn't care less about bring up his daughter, why would I? Oh that's right, anything he does is bad. Sorry... forgot. As Jon Stewart put it: If the Democrats made it rain cookies, the papers would report "Dems leave millions milkless"

"Today Obama inhaled a bug during a press conference and really all I have to say is what was he breathing for? I mean obviously he was asking for it. And it clearly leaves many wondering just why he hates black people and white people so much?" ~Glenn Beck (not really)

Beck is a douche, I'm not arguing that at all.

As for the governments responsibility / culpability I can only put it this simply: If it weren't for decisions made by the Obama administration, that hole in the bottom of the gulf wouldn't exist.

I like the teacher/student analogy. The teacher gave a risky and dangerous assignment.

In the same press conference Beck is referring to, Obama admitted he was wrong.

good point, i didnt think about why that hole is there.

anyways, i just wish everything wasnt so liberal vs conservative. in general. both sides have good traits and good people working the sidelines. i just happen to believe in the liberal side of things.

We might as well just go the way of rome and divide our country in half already. Put libs on the left and conservatives in the right, send all the douche bags to alaska or a god forbidden wasteland and see who lasts the longest.

You know what? I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin but when I stop hearing jokes about her kids is when this will upset me.

When Sarah Palin stops using her kids as political props, the jokes will probably slow down.

It should still be out of bounds. All of it.

What Beck said pales in comparison to the vitriol I've heard about Palin's kids.

I agree that all of that should be out of bounds.

The problem I have with Palin is that she complains about how her kids get brought into the discourse, but then still uses them as pawns to try and make her political points.

I was putting alaska and god forsaken wasteland in two different categories, but I should have said "or somewhere else that's hella far away" instead of confusing alaska with a wasteland.

Kids should be off limits for the good and the bad. That being said, don't use your kids for partisan advantage and then turn around and complain when they get talked about. When you put your kids on the stage everything is on display, not just the good. Palin used her kids as a prop and they have been on television (especially Bristol, the one who was pregnant) supporting their mom, discussing issues and talking about the baby Bristol had. That's, in my opinion being involved and subject to criticism. One big thing that has gotten Palin ridiculed (when it comes to her children) is the irony of how adamant she is about abstinence only education. She wants abstinence education to be the only education which has been shown to be very ineffective and then when her daughter got knocked up of course people were going to talk about it...why wouldn't they? Obama sharing a small story about his daughter is not the same thing. All I'm saying is that if you are going to bring your kids into the political spotlight for your advantage then don't bitch when they get attention.

Also Obama's girls are much younger and don't take an active role in politics or media interviews unlike Palin's kids. You wanna go out on NBC then you're asking for it.

As for Palin and abstinence only - she can support it all she wants, but unless she locks her daughter in her bedroom or follows her everywhere, you can't really fault Palin for her daughter getting knocked up. You can lead a horse to water...

I'm not faulting her man, teens are insane. Like you said, short of locking them in the house you can only hope you instilled the right values in them and that they took root. That being said though I can see why someone would chuckle at the irony.

I won't say I didn't laugh either...but I sure as shit didn't try to crucify her or her stance on it.
