Some general gameplay questions that were answered:
Q: Will attributes put in shot blocking make more of a difference this year?
A: It will make a HUGE difference this year.
______________
Q: Can you move while being stick lifted?
A: No
______________
Q: How does poke checking work? Is it purely player skill?
A: There is a new attribute covering poke checking this year.
______________
Q: Intimidation: Will it work like in NHL 10?
A: Not a big difference
______________
Q: What can you tell us about goalies? Any better?
A: Goalies are better, for sure, but beyond that I can't go into specifics.
______________
Q: Can goalies get injured?
A: Only when simming
_______________
Q: Can you hug the boards and try to stop the puck wrap around the boards?
A: Yes. This is probably like in NHL 11.
_______________
Q: Is the auto-poke and auto-swat still in the game?
A: Auto-swat is still there. Not sure about auto-poke
______________
Q: Will a variety of shots be worth taking? Did you notice varied goal scoring?
A: Yup, wrist shots seemed a little harder this year than last year, and in the games I played, high percentage shots seemed worth taking this year as opposed to year's past where you might be better of passing around, looking for a cross crease.
______________
Physics:
Q: Can you be checked if you boardplay yourself?
A: Bit of a sticky question, but it is being discussed. In reality yes, but how it is been implemented is up for debate. I spoke to Jason and offered ONE solution that was added, but that's still only a small piece of the puzzle. Once gameplay can be discussed, I'll talked about my suggestion
______________
Q: Can you tell us a bit about body checks and how speed, player size and weight affect the hits?
A: I think those factors are more important than ever before. They had the Russian guy with a PhD working on physics all year, so I'm sure these play a key role in determining how hits work.
______________
Q: Can I collide with my own teammates?
A: They were looking into it.
______________
Q: Can a player be checked while in a deke or shot animation?
A: YES!
______________
Q: Is the tripping animation from NHL 10 still there?
A: No, there are no trippig animations at all... physics driving, but that also means you WILL see the tripping animation, as we already know it, sometimes
______________
Q: Can you lose your helmet when hit?
A: Don't think so
______________
Q: What about puck physics, have they been upgraded?
A: Yes, they have been given a nice overhaul. The way the puck reacts when it hits the boards and goalie will be very different now.
______________
Q: Is there collision detection without checking?
A: Yes
______________
Q: Will players get up quickly after big hits, or are they stunned?
A: After a huge hit, he will not get up quickly...
______________
Q: Has the new physics engine added in collision detection? (sick on stick, stick on puck)
A: Yes
______________
Q: Can a player be hit into the bench?
A: Not at this time.
______________
Q: How's hitting when your standing still
A: This feels like battling now. You can still hit, but not nearly as effective.
______________
Q: About the LB: How is this with the new physics engine?
A: The new physics engine will allow for much better collisions and glances regarding the LB moves this year than last.
_______________
Q: Is stick on stick collision any better?
A: Much better than in NHL 10. There's still a few clipping issues here and there.
_______________
Q: Are the goalies still immune to hits?
A: Yes, but this is something they will look to change in the coming years.
_______________
Q: Can you knock a player out with a big hit, or if they hit their head the glass or the ice after being hit?
A: Not sure if this has been changed a lot from last year.
_______________
Q: Any chance of pile ups in front of the net from players being knocked down on top of eachother?
A: I don't think pile ups are possible.
_______________
Q: What's the coolest move you did or saw?
A: A player skating hard at the boards. An opposition player came from the side and hit him off balance, while going towards the boards another player hit him so he lost his footing and went head first in the boards. His whole body smoked the boards in the air, it was pretty epic.
_______________
Q: Will guys who get hit along the boards, brace themselves?
A: Didn't see it, but the new physics engine would probably allow it
_______________
Q: Will the glass move when checking a player into the boards?
A: Yes, pretty much like in NHL 10
_______________
Q: When taking shots, will sticks go through the body, or will it be more difficult to take shots in crowded areas?
A: Unfortunately the stick, even though is a solid rendered object, is not affected by physics while in the hands of a player. It is programmed to clip though objects in order to maintain proper control of the puck without creating massive chaos.
_______________
Q: How has the physics affected rebounds?
A: Physics affect the puck velocity. Rebounds are now accurate to the speed of the shot. As far as goalie AI, and directing pucks to the corners, it is still being tuned.
_______________
Q: Will I be able to hit my teammates?
A: It's possible, but it's not decided if it will be in the final build.
_______________
Q: When taking slapshots, will the puck align itself perfectly by it self, or will we have to use the VC to line it up or will we shoot the puck from the spot the puck is?
A: While pulling back to perform a slapshot, the puck is still being controlled by the player and will automatically go to where the "sweet spot" is for taking a good shot.
_______________

A: Unfortunately the stick, even though is a solid rendered object, is not affected by physics while in the hands of a player. It is programmed to clip though objects in order to maintain proper control of the puck without creating massive chaos.
_______________
Q: Can you dislodge the net?
A: No, there was clipping issue and it was decided to keep the net's stationary until "they can do it right"
_______________
Q: What happens to the puck after a hit
A: As far as I could tell, the puck with continue the path it should take
_______________
Q: Can the hitter fall on the other player?
A: Guess it could happen, depending on the situation.
_______________
Broken Sticks:
Q: What's the frequency of broken sticks?
A: 3-4 per game we played. Will probably be tuned down for the final version.
_______________
Q: What actually triggers them during collisions or shots? Is it completely random or will taking shots in certain situations actually increase the likelihood of a break occurring?
A: Stick breaks I think are random, but also have to do with how you shoot the puck. When we played, pulling back for a wrist shot (think NHL 10 pullback wrister) increased the chance your stick would break, though I can't say for sure whether that will make it to the final version. I noticed sticks breaking more on big slapshots than anything else though.
______________
Q: When you are stickless and you are in a position to kick or glove pass the puck, is it just a random bump of the puck forward (like the midair puck bat) or do you actually have some directional (like boardplay) or velocity control?
A: You can't control the velocity, but you can aim where you want to kick or glove the puck. It's not entirely automated like batting the puck from midair, but there also isn't as much control as you would have passing the puck normally.
______________
Q: Do sticks break after hits?
A: No, but you can lose the stick after a hit. Then you will have to go pick it up.
______________
Q: Will the flex have any impact on how often sticks break?
A: This is not known yet, but probably not.
______________
Q: When you are stickless, is the puck suctioned to your possession, or is it loose?
A: It's loose. Kind of like the loose puck one timer.
______________
Q: Can we move the broken sticks?
A: They will be moved if we skate over them.
______________
Q: Does the goalie react to broken sticks and will he try to move them?
A: The goalie does not make any intentional reaction to the broken sticks, but will accidentally move them if he skates over them
______________
Q: Can you break sticks on purpose?
A: No, there's a big random factor.
______________
Q: How do you pick your stick when you've lost it? Do you have to skate over it and press A?
A: You just have to skate over it. Or go on without it.
______________
Q: Can you pick up someone elses dropped stick?
A: If you don't have a stick... SURE!
______________
Q: Do you have to drop your broken stick manually
A: No, it happens automaticly
______________
Q: Do referees clear broken sticks?
A: No.
_______________
Q: Can goalies drop their sticks?
A: No
_______________
Q: Can players trip on broken sticks?
A: They will just kick them out of the way.
_______________
Q: What's the animation like when you go to the bench to receive a new stick?
A: Didn't notice who handed them out, but I believe it was a player on the bench.
_______________
Q: Can sticks break in practice?
A: Yes
_______________
Q: If a stick breaks as a result of a sticklift, will there be a slashing penalty?
A: Not in the build we played.
_______________
Q: What happens if you pass your stick to a teammate and he's left-handed and you're right handed?
A: This is one of the things they are still working on.
_______________
Q: What happens if that player is 5'6 and you're 6'9, do you get an unbelievably large stick?
A: Can't answer this one.
_______________
Face Offs:
Q: How do we choose the various faceoff techniques? Can we assign a certain player to take faceoffs, and can you be kicked out of the faceoff?
A: When you go for the draw, you choose forehand or backhand with the Right Thumbstick, then you choose your technique based on what buttons/movement you implement. Like I said, there's a learning curve here, and I hadn't mastered it by the time we left.
______________
Q: Will the wingers take more part in the face offs?
A: Yes, they will have a lot more to do now. The centerman might need the wingers to help win the draw.
______________
Q: Can you get tossed out of the face off circle this year?
A: No
______________
Q: About the variety of face offs: Is it like rock paper scissors or is speed on the draw still a factor? What i mean is, can somebody just use the tie-up feature all game and the other player cannot combat it.
A: Yes it is a lot like rock, paper, scissors, However speed is still a factor, and attributes also matter still. So if you have 99 faceoffs, and I have 50, even if I was a bit quicker your guy still may be able to win the draw because he is just so much more awesome.
______________
New Dekes:
Q: How does the sprawl feature work?
A: It's like shooting from the knees. It's rare and very difficult to pull off, but awesome when you pull it off.
______________
Q: Tell us a bit about the sprawl function. How is its limitations?
A:When you sprawl, you can hit the puck in a variety of directions, either towards the net or wherever. You can sweep it out of the zone for sure, and while it's limited to some extent, I don't think it's limited anymore than you would actually be limited trying to shoot from your stomach or back on real ice than in the game. You can not snipe top shelf.
______________
Q: Can every player perform fancy dekes?
A: Like in NHL 10, only the skilled players can perform on the knees dekes. (at least very rare for medium skilled players to do so)
______________
Q: On dekes, when I pull my stick through an other player or stick, what happens?
A: It seems a lot better than in the past. How much better is hard to say.
______________
Q: Aside from the new dekes, are the old ones still there?
A: Both the "head fake" and "Body Juke" are gone and replaced by the zednik and bure dekes. The others are still there. Plus they have adjusted the spinoramas to be more accurate to real life skating.
______________
Q: Can we skate while deking?
A: No

_______________
Q: Can you jump over people if you don't have the puck
A: Don't think you can do this
_______________
Q: How many new dekes are there?
A: Loose puck dekes is limited like previous years, but some very useful dekes have been added.
