How do you specialize 'on' something?

If he said he "specialized in porn" people might take the meaning that the writer was implying that Mr. King was actively involved in the sexual acts that take place in porno. Nobody wants that mental image. So b&y decided to sacrifice proper grammar for the betterment of mankind.

Or he used the wrong word, because saying Stephen King specialized IN porn would, in this context, mean he specializes in writing erotica.

Perhaps intentionally, if he is conscious of societies exhausted expression of people "staring in porn". The initial interpretation would immediately be misconstrued, inevitably leading to a prolonged discussion about how awful the thought of Stephen King having sex is. And may even raise questions to b&y's sexuality.
