I knew it was an adidas ball, but I'm not talking about the ball at all, moreso the players bitching about it. Yeah, it sucks, but it's not going anywhere.

XC, I do see your point; it would be like changing the puck every year. o.0

i remember several years ago the NBA tried to introduce a new ball...and it failed horribly.

as for soccer. i think that the main complaint 4 years ago was that the goalies couldnt pick up the spin on the ball or something like that because of the way the plates were designed.

i still think they should stfu and play.

I keep thinking this has happened before, but it was in the NBA... Unlike a basketball, a soccer ball is rather unlikely to cut up players' hands. Adapt.

The world cup soccer ball can be purchased online for between $120 and $150

http://www.amazon.com/adidas-World-Offi ... B002N4FT16

A $150 ball.

Well, it probably cost $1 or less to make.

Probably more like $.05

Ridiculous.

They have a monopoly and this is their payday.

They don't have a monopoly, they just have a contract for WC and EC. Several leagues use Nike balls.

I've tried the new ball. The main difference is that it is faster, that's why the goalies are complaining, faster balls are harder to stop. Playing with it isn't different to the ball from 2 years ago (EC ball) and the newer balls doesn't mean you need less skill. You can shoot the ball more accurate because of the new designs but you still need the skill to hit it right. It's almost a perfect sphere. 15 years ago the balls were actually a icosahedron.
The main reason for new balls is merchandising but they get improved everytime (more spheric, faster, more accurate to play).

I havent had my feet on a new ball yet, but there is the chance they're not just making something to bitch about. Likely if they've actually been playing with the new balls for the last 6 months they're used to it by now, i'd assume it's the guys who havent been using the new ones, and are just now becoming aware of any differences from last incarnations.

Spending a lot of time with a ball on my foot personally (I welcome any sort of clever nut-foot-joke you can manage to think of) i'll pledge to varying ball types having different personalities, characteristics of lift, spin, weight, density, and just general 'feel'. When it comes to precision shooting and passing these small differences can culminate into a big difference in effect.

Anyways, they're professional soccer players playing on the largest stage this world erects, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND GET USED TO THE BALL YOU TWATS.

I was trying to imply they have a monopoly on the WC ball....which is a big deal (and massive revenue generator).

I'm not doubting it's the best sports and material science can produce, I just think is rather silly to do this before the WC so we have to have this global conversation and made up controversy every 4 years.

Seems kind of stupid no?

Soccer players are just drama queenzzz. Maybe the goalies should stop bitching and start making some saves, IDK JUST A THOUGHT.

There is some diving in hockey, but I think the video above that Woz posted contained more diving than hockey EVER will in it's existence.

I love the world cup. It's fun to watch and soccer is a great team sport in theory, but players like that make me sick. I have seen several games where players have just flopped around while not even being touched.

Players like Alex Kovalev were born to play soccer.
