There's a ridiculously-encompassing post over at the excellent Puck The Media blog (seriously, bookmark it for all your hockey/media news) that talks about what tremendously tremendous successes the league had this year.

Included among what's talked about are records for: most watched all-US final in Canada, most watched playoffs on cable, highest-rated game in 36 years, biggest viewership numbers for TSN and NBC, and triple digit increases in viewership in non-traditional markets.

Does this mean we can upgrade from Versus to maybe...Bravo or Spike?

 Honestly, Spike would be an upgrade in some ways. But really, I like what Versus has done and want to see them move forward next season. Maybe some double-headers during the season, a proper 30 minute pregame show at 6:30PM, even (pipe dream, I know) put games on Thursday.

ESPN broadcasters were talking about the NHL finals and what a great sport hockey is and how it's growing.

They went on to say the NHL should be pushing to be a top tier sport in the US because this country is ready to embrace hockey.

The first step to do this? Bring the game back to ESPN.

Personally, I like Versus. They're 10X more dedicated to the NHL than ESPN will ever be.

ESPN has been talking about how hockey has been growing since, well, forever. :p

The most impressive stat listed there:
"Stanley Cup Snares Five Top 20 Searches on Google"

Seriously, with Lady effin Gaga, the world cup wind-up, oil spills etc. that's pretty damn impressive.

Problem is, ESPN doesn't love hockey anymore. Like, almost at all. How much air time did Melrose or Barnaby get during or after game six? Damn near none that I saw.
