Oh yeah, here's more of what frustrates me about this game in general. The 2nd Slovak goal was a result of a defender moving up and trying to draw an offside, instead of staying back on his man and playing it tough. Then Howard came up to challenge, a big risk over staying back and forcing the striker to make a good shot.

On Donovan's goal, the goalie didn't have much chance, but he flinched back and eliminated any chance of a save as the shot came in. How can you not be willing to sacrifice a swollen face to prevent a WC goal?? I would at least try to deflect that ball with any part of my body.

These little details, and all the drama of rolling around on the ground after contact continue to show that there is a much different mind set among soccer players and the game in general. I like the game, but I want to see men that are willing to run through a wall to win a game, no matter how many toes or blades of grass rub them the wrong way, or how bad a ball might hurt.

At least the diving hasn't been too bad in non-Italy matches.
