That would have been the first time in World Cup history a team would have won after being down 2 at the half.

Fack, that was some bullshit today. I'd like that referee to suck a turd.

On a different note, what the hell was Howard tripping out on when that first goal was scored? He just stood there as it went flying past him...not moving EVER, a surprising lack of focus, I expect much better from him, and we could have won this game had he come through.

So here is the tiebreaker scenario, we're lucky we tied at 2's today and england was blanked, that puts us ahead of them in the tiebreaker.

(From http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsi ... state+play )

1. greater number of points obtained in matches between the tied teams (tied at 1)
2. goal difference in all group matches (tied at 0)
3. greatest number of goals scored in all group matches (at this point, we're up by 2, we advance)
4. goal difference in matches between the tied teams
5. greater number of goals scored in matches between the tied teams
6. drawing of lots (at the final event)

Permutations
– If Slovenia win or draw against England, they are guaranteed a first-ever last-16 berth.

– If Slovenia win they will finish first. If they draw they will finish first if USA fail to beat Algeria.

– If Slovenia draw and USA win, first place will go down to goal difference.

– If USA beat Algeria they will progress. If they draw they can progress so long as England fail to beat Slovenia, although this will go down to goal difference if England also draw.

– If England beat Slovenia, they will progress. If they draw they can progress only if the USA-Algeria match ends in a draw and goals scored will be the deciding factor.

– If Algeria beat USA, they are guaranteed qualification if England fail to win. If Algeria win and England beat Slovenia, Algeria and Slovenia will be tied on four points with goal difference deciding.

Howard said in an interview that he never saw the shot, that's why he didn't move.

An angle of that first goal from behind the net showed a US player diving in the way of the shot, missing but blocking the view of the ball from the ground to about five meters toward the net. Another US player was standing near the path of the ball as well and semi blocked the view of the ball for another couple meters.

I thought the same thing for a while until I saw that replay, and Howard really didn't have a chance to react once he saw it. Even if he did see the ball the whole way it was a very well placed shot, and Howard would've only gotten a hand on it at best. I do wish he would calm down though, it makes him look like a grand stander.

"I was just thinking about it. And that game could have been a turning point in the popularity of Soccer in the US. Americans love dramatic comebacks more than anything else in sports and that would have been one for the ages. It could have been the moment where Americans started saying 'Oh. This game IS exciting. I can actually watch this. This is something I can get behind.'

Instead, this fucktard just reaffirmed the beliefs of all the people in the USA who view soccer as an incomprehensible mess that is broken and inferior to almost all sports."

It's kinda true.

One one hand, it's kinda nice that this fuckery is getting all the attention here that it's getting. On the other hand, it does reinforce the American perspective of soccer as an inferior sport. We can live with a bad call, just tell is what the damn call was!! Beyond that, anyone watching could see that the US players were being grabbed and held, even people who've never watched a game. How come they can tell that better than the professional official that's responsible for it?

Then again, if you look at soccer in general, you haven't made it as a soccer nation until you get fucked on the world stage somehow. Maybe this means we can sit at the big boy table now.

Yeah. The one thing that Americans like more than dramatic come from behind victories is being able to yell "FUCK YOU!" to the rest of the world.

For those who missed it, here is the highlight of Sunday.

ESPN was talking about the French meltdown, and decided it might be a good idea to interview someone in the French media about what happened concerning that French guy getting kicked off the team for cursing out his coach on the field. So the French media guy just flat out tells out like it is. He says, live on US TV, "he said, go to...fuck yourself, and you are a son of a bitch."
It was hilarious, the ESPN commentator falling all over himself, saying he appreciated the accuracy with which the French media guy enlightened them, but that English is his 2nd language, and we're sorry, we're sorry, we're sorry, etc.! Good stuff!

And the refs are at it again. Kaka of Brazil gets a bullshit ejection when Kadar Keita received an Academy Award for his dive. And Luis Fabiano gets away with a hand ball en route to his goal for Brazil. Fucking bullshit

Yeah, that double handball on the 2nd goal was bullshit.

Portugal just hung 7 on North Korea. What a drubbing. In American Football terms, that's a 112-0 score.

Quote:
ESPN Stats and Info: Up date from earlier: Now, 12 of Portugal's 39 (30.7%) World Cup finals goals have come against North Korea and 12 of the 18 (66.7%) goals allowed by North Korea in the World Cup have been to Portugal.

I feel bad for the North Korean players. Portugal has to run it up because of the importance of goal differential, but I'd have hoped they would have turned it down after 3 or 4 goals. Those North Korean players are FUCKED when they get home.
