I did that a few weeks ago, know exactly how you feel.
I was visiting my relatives in Florida and the cable went out, so I took my laptop on a terrace outside to steal someone else's wifi. I had to walk down a concrete half-spiral staircase to go down...second stair from the top I lost my balance (too dark to see well). I went from one railing all the way to another than back to the middle trying to keep my computer from falling...got it down to about 18 inches above the ground before it fell, and I fell flat on my butt.
Whole ordeal probably took less than a second but it felt like 10. Definitely slow-mo feeling. Although thankfully my computer had nothing other than a few scratches on the bottom...thankfully it stayed on the stair it landed on...because with concrete stairs, it could have been ugly.
Oh, I'm sure. That sounds horrible. Dropping computer stories always make me cringe. Luckily the way I dropped mine, it sorta slipped down the stairs that are carpeted, so it had a bit of a softer landing. Better than having it drop right on the hardwood floor and into the wall. I'm usually very careful with my computer, especially going up and down stairs, but I guess I had kind of a brain fart.
Yeah, normally I'm diligent about carrying it in a case...has saved me on a few occasions...during the winter I slipped on some ice while getting out of my car and it flew like 8 feet in the air, but was completely unharmed. But for some reason I didn't have it in a case at the time. Then again, I didn't plan on falling down the stairs either.
