As Yoda would say...

"Offsides that was not."

On the other hand, Altidore should have buried his chance, he's gotta finish that. They've played well in second halves, we'll see what happens.

If they keep playing like that they will win it. If I were superstitious I would say USA used all their luck on the goal against England.

Donovan should have stayed away from the ball. Altidore was in better position.

It's pretty ridiculous. The calls over the last several World Cups that have gone against USA make me wonder. That offside call was wrong, and it wasn't even that close. If some part of Dempsey's body was ahead of the defender I could understand, but he was as onside as it gets. If the USA doesn't advance to the next round they have every reason to put up a completely obnoxious shit fit against FIFA over it. Unless FIFA finds a way to legitimize their officiating they run the risk of having the same credibility as WWF.

Actually, it was as close as it gets. They were exactly on the same line with their feet. You can't have a closer decision or it would have been offside.
That's a really tough call to make because the lines has no freeze frame. He has to look at the ball when it's played and at the same time look who is in front while everybody is in motion. In my opinion you can't really blame the refs for that one because it's too close for the human eye to be sure. The call against Slovenia is a different story, that was plain bullshit.

Off the post, and then how do you not put that rebound away? This game is ridiculous

Well, it was close, but considering other offsides calls in other games and how close the ball was to where it was played...it should have been an easy call.

If FIFA would clamp down on diving for once, scoring would increase because with all the red cards the game would be reduced to around 6-on-5.

:D Impossible, there gotta be at least 7 players (incl. goalie) on the field, otherwise the game ends.

And soccer goes back to irrelevance for another four years.

Fuck you FIFA. Just like the NHL, your incompetent officiating is ruining a great sport.

The official statement from FIFA about the officiating in the USA matches was, "The ugly Americans can now refrain from soiling our tournament, and return to the dark hole from which they crawled out of".
