A job's a job, right? Even when the job means stripping, and especially when the job means stripping during a downturn. But Missouri's Republican legislature is looking to crack down on the adult entertainment industry, even if that means piling onto the state's unemployment rate of 9.3%. From the WSJ:

Last month, the Republican-controlled legislature passed one of the nation's toughest state laws aimed at strip clubs and other adult-entertainment venues. It would ban nude dancing and the serving of alcohol in adult cabarets, force strip clubs to close at midnight and forbid seminude dancers to touch patrons.

Missouri's strip club scene is a $4 million industry that employs about 3,000 people, according to its backers (read: might be slightly exaggerated).

But Kansas City isn't the first recession-city to face stripping crackdowns. Detroit passed a law to tighten strip club regulations in February this year, as the U.S. attorney general has named the city's clubs as human trafficking hot spots.

I see this as an important distinction. That state law should crack down on human trafficking is a moral obligation that exists above and beyond the question of stimulus spending. But the Missouri law to ban alcohol and force clubs to close at midnight sounds like a broad death warrant for the industry rather than a reasonable bill that aims to root out a particular illegality associated with Kansas City strip clubs.

Here in Colorado Springs we can have booze and titties or no booze and everything. I'm not a big strip club goer but that's what I've seen from the few times I have gone out over the last three years.

When Rick's lost their liquor license, they stayed open as 18 and over no alcohol all nude.

Frankly, it's the reason I went up to Canada a lot when I was younger. Titties AND beer.

I think in NC a club can be all nude and BYOB.

Yeah the one strip club I went to was in Ohio and they were the same, beer and titties, but the strippers were fine with showing off their cooter at any given opportunity.

Yaaaay human trafficking. Looked into that heavily a few years ago, and let's just say I don't see why some people are supportive of legalizing prostitution or loosening laws that have anything to do with selling sex or anything like it (not porn) in any way. (Though I don't like that prostitutes take the fall, because most of them don't do what they do of their own volition.) Making everything legal would, though, help the industry surpass the drug trade as the largest criminal activity in the world, if it hasn't already done so on its own. (Just Googled it; apparently it has in Europe, anyway, which is not surprising because hi, the Netherlands.)

its not irrational, tom. they hate us, we hate them. i mean, hell, the two states had a legit war against each other.

we seriously very strongly dislike for each other. and it probably doesnt help that the most heated, vile rivalry in all sports is between the two.

Cleveland was nice, only drove through it though. Sandusky was alright, a little gross in some areas, but whatever. Cedar Point was pretty sweet. Never been as far west as Michigan.

well, of course you are. but the truth is, to this day, michigan and ohio have alot of tension between them. its not like i got bored one day, and decided to hate ohio.

even MSU fans root for michigan in that game.
