Shouldn't be too bad since it's just an RFA deal

If he doesn't regress at all and actually improves his play, it'll be in the $6M range.

RFA's usually don't make that much. I expect around 4.5m and the UFA will be 6+m. Maybe we can get him cheaper if he wants to stay here. By the way, I am so PSYCHED! for next season!!! ALREADY!! DAMN!
....and I didn't save enough of my DVR recordings to get through the summer. I only have like 6 Sabres games still saved. I guess I have to rely n youtube and NHL Network...

Look at the DEFENSEMEN on that list. It's even better.

easy there. i love myers and i think hes a hell of a player, and will be. but his defense needs some work. hes above average right now, but nothing more. he needs to become meaner and more physical, which may or may not happen. the meaner part. either you are born with it, or you arnt. he will get better defensively, for sure, and more physical. but hes got a long way to go. his ceiling is VERY high.

You don't need to be mean to win a Norris, Lidstrom anyone?

Myers is also very humble, he is in no way playing for himself, he is playing for his love of the game and his teammates and we need more players like him.

He's very mature and I bet he'll win a few Norris trophies in his years, I've been saying that when he was top of the runner for Calder. A future Norris Trophy winner for sure.

Historically, yes. But the last two were Bryan Berard and Barret Jackman. Not superstars.

This is interesting. Because I believe his contract will run out when the current cba runs out. And there is talk that GM's want a limit on how big of a raise an RFA can get. I can't remember how much percentage of a raise Vanek got from his offer sheet but I know Penner got a raise of 450%.
So if there is a rule in place when Myers' contract expires than we won't be in bad shape. If there isn't a rule and he can comman anything he wants.
I say Darcy give's him anywhere from 5.5-6.5 long term. I know Darcy isn't one to give out really long contracts and even I would be worried to hand out a contract like Richards' or Ov's, but I think Myers is the right guy to give a big long contract too.
Playing the way he does, he wont wear and tear easy. And this may sound crazy but Phil can back me up on this, the kid can play 35+ minutes a night. He's already done it at the junior level. Once he hits his peak he will be a monster. Give him 10 years 60 mill a new car every year(like Gretz' 21 year deal) and all the pussy he wants.

He's right about what Myers looks like in his prime. During the Chynoweth Cup playoffs in his final year in junior, he was just as physical as people want him to be now while playing 30+ minutes a night and double-shifting on the PK. He's not comfortable with himself yet at the NHL level is all, but you could see him growing into his frame toward the end of the season and bring that snarl back that he restrained throughout his rookie season.

In Berard's defense, its hard to judge his career. He had that awful eye injury pretty early in his career and its safe to say, playing with 20/600 vision probably hindered his game....juuuust a bit

I would have been upset if Myers *didn't* get the Calder...just because he plays defense.
Not taking anything away from the other guys but to play D at his level for your entire rookie year is quite the rare feat.
His neck still scares the shit out of me though...I think it has its own gravitational field.

It increases gravity by 2.2m/s within 300 meters of it. <start chuck norris style comments now>

He kids, go to your corners for a 5 minute timeout and think about what you've just said, words can hurt people's feelings, so apologize after your timeout.

If not, go play with that gun laying around and see if you can shoot yourself in the foot or something?

Tyler probably beat out Doughty because of his stature alone. Doughty can never have the potential that Myers size affords him. We sometimes forget this award is based on more than just this years performance. If it were, they'd have to go by stats. I'm sure the wording is most proficient or something, but so untrue.
