PK, I dunno what you're talking about re: looking for service - maybe you live in an area with shit reception? I swear by my BB Curve, and I'll most likely upgrade to the newest Tour or Bold when my upgrade comes in.

It could be but it looks for service even when I have full bars. It also could be the type of BB I have. Don't get me wrong I loved it when it came out but lately I have wanted beat the shit out it with a bat.

Hmm, now I'm curious what's up with your model. Perplexed, to be sure.

It's a Blackberry Pearl 8130 with Bell

I've got no issues with my Pearl; I'm thinkin about upgrading to the 3g one when it comes out...

Then it must be my phone from bell, it too bad because I thought I was getting a deal getting the pearl for free with a $55 a month contract for three years. Plus I also who have friends who have had problems with their BB's also so who knows

If the whole lost iPhone thing was any indication, they tested all these phones in the wild with cases on them ,so they never would have run into the problem.

Just curious...have you upgraded your firmware / OS lately...or ever?

I got a new Tour about 2 months ago and right out of the box it needed 2 OS updates.

Aye. That's what I've read. We'll see though, if it truly was just one "batch" that made it out of the factory fuckered up.

My brother got his today. Just tested it, it definitely does it on his.

Even when not touching it, I have 2 more bars than him at all times on my 3GS.

Apple admits the problem:" yeah we know...don't hold it like that or buy a case"

http://news.cnet.com/8301-31021_3-20008 ... ag=nl.e703

The Apple design house just went down a notch in my book.
At least admit it up front. I had a phone once that came with a sticker on it that said "don't cover the top of the phone with your hand" but that was when handset manufacturers first started making antennas internal.

Dam I wish I was an american, plus to answer the question about the update of my BB, no I haven't but when ever I plugged it into the USB slot it would never recognize it.

Download the Blackberry Desktop software
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/

and try plugging it into USB again.
If that doesn't work, try it on another computer.

The desktop software should see it and prompt you about any updates that are available.

he says all cell phones lose reception when held a certain way.

really?

i hate my blackberry, and it NEVER loses reception, no matter how i hold it, where it is.

pure and simple, they are passing the buck. this is a very real problem for apple.

I've owned phones before that have done this. Quite a few actually.

But I never really expected it out of Apple. It's a real drag.

I wonder if I used some kind of clear coating in that area if that would eliminate the problem should I buy one.

Everything else on that phone works wayyy too nice not to want one. The upload speeds, crazy good turn by turn GPS (finally), HD video and photos...

Adam, would you really ghetto-rig your phone with some scotch tape to prevent the antenna short?

I think Steve Jobs is kind of idiot, he thinks putting out another update to the operating system is going to fix the issue with the new iPhone?? How will an update fix the reception problems with out taking the entire phone apart??
