Big Buff is never going to score 30 goals a year or pot 80 points.

The max for a guy like him is possibly 50-60 points on a great year.

And who will he play with better than Toews or Kane in Atlanta.

If used properly(esp on the PP) Buff could potentially achieve 25-30 goals. Probably 20 assists tops. I think your range is right on(maybe even heavy on assists), but he may have a scoring touch(key).

\We paid $7 million/year, also forgoing 4 top 5 1st round picks for this type guy. The rape potential is strong here.

Vanek and Byfuglien aren't comparable.

I can't believe I missed this this morning...but are you freaking kidding me. Byfuglien is Gaustad, not Vanek.

If you think different, I've got some Ocean Front property in Arizona not effected by the oil spill, and very cheap.

I mean, it's almost the same thing...

Buff will never score 40+ goals like Vanek is capable of, and Vanek is capable of scoring over a PPG, with a RWer.

Buff will get the dirty goals in front of the net, but he will never be the sniper to put one in from the circles or other places Vanek can.

He's a power forward for a reason, his size. He's no Mario Lemiuex with that size and skill.

Buff would be luck to duplicate his year that he had with the Hawks. The only really good player the Thrahsers have on there team is Evander Kane, other than that they are so thin up front its not even funny.

If they could get a good center for Kane, he'll have a sick sophomore season. The kid could turn into the next iginla (no, not because they're both black).

Kane needs to put on 20 pounds to be the next Iginla, he could become the next one easily though.

Darcy sucks for not trading Connolly and butler for Byfuglien.

I can see how one may compare Vanek to Buff, because they are both tough to move down low, but I can't see comparing Iginla to Pat Kane?? Also, no one claimed Buff was Vanek, nor did they claim he'll score 50 goals. I see his potential to be 25-30 goals. You can claim having no stars hurts him, but I see it as giving him the key role in their PP.

Dunno, maybe it's just me.

Evander Kane not Patrick Kane.

Evander Kane is 6'2 190 and Iginla is 6'1 209.

Both can be compared easily.

I was kind of thinking Byfuglien is a physical version of Kotalik honesly.

Plus Evander Kane can do this.

Reworded.

Byfuglien could possibly achieve 25-30 goals, probably 20 assists tops. We pay Thomas Vanek to be this type of player.

What the hell are you saying then?

If you Byfuglien's best TWO seasons and add them together here's how he matches up with Thomas Vanek:

(Byfuglien's stats for his two best years COMBINED minus Vanek's stats for each listed year)

G
05-06 - +11
06-07 - -7
07-08 - even
08-09 - -4
09-10 - +8

A
05-06 - +11
06-07 - -7
07-08 - +6
08-09 - +10
09-10 - +9

PPG
05-06 - +2
06-07 - -2
07-08 - -6
08-09 - -7
09-10 - +3

And that doesn't even take into account that Byfuglien is a career minus player.

In summation, Byfuglien will be slightly more productive in 82 games than Thomas Vanek is in 41.....every other year.

I have no idea why you insist Vanek=Byfuglien. I smell teen angst?

You can clearly see I was comparing their ability to be a horse down low. If you'll check the Vanek thread, I claimed he can get 50. 50 does not equal 25. In fact it's HALF. Exactly what we calculated it to be. Genius, eh?

Easy boy.

To be simpler,

Vanek=50
Byfuglien=25.

as you said, in 2 years, by your mathematics....

yes, it would be the same total.

Buff has 55 goals in 260 games, Vanek has 172 in 389.

Buff has a career .211 Goals a game average.
Vanek has a career .442 Goals a game average.

Buff has 54 assists in 260 games, Vanek has 141 in 389.

Buff has a career .208 Assists per game average.
Vanek has a career .362 Assists per game average.

Buff has 109 points in 260 games, Vanek has 313 in 389.

Buff has a career .419 Points per game average.
Vanek has a career .805 Points per game average.

Now tell me between these two players who is truly more valuable to their team.

I retract my previous statements about the ceiling on Buff is, Vanek is 26, Buff is 25. Buff will never top 25 goals, and will probably never top 25 assists. His max points is 50, he'll never be any more then a role guy down low in front of the net. He'll be in the 30-45 range his entire career, and he'll do that job perfectly.

Vanek is a guy capable of scoring 45+ goals and 40 assists and being over a PPG player. there is a reason one was drafted 5th overall and the other was 245th overall. I'm not knocking Buff at all, no way in hell should an 8th round draft pick be in the NHL, he has overcame those odds already.

To say a guy who had 19 in 67 when he was a kid has no chance to get 25 when he's going to be given the opportunity to be the man(just like he just did in front of the world) somewhere is a stat I wouldn't want to post.

Oh, this is what you all getting your panties bunched over?

This statement DOES NOT = Vanek=Byfuglien.

It states they have similarities.

wtf is with you guys??

Anyways, as I said, let me get on the Byfuglien bandwagon, and ride off.
