The antenna is a hardware problem, a blind man could see that.

Verizon doesn't get the iPhone until their LTE network is up and running, AND Apple starts making phones with a dual band GSM/LTE radio.

Be extremely skeptical of any report that has Apple making a CDMA iPhone. It doesn't make sense.

Turns out it may not be a hardware problem.

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10 ... _4_01.html

Quote:
The fix is expected to address a issue in iOS 4 related to radio frequency calibration of the baseband. Readers who saw the original forum discussions say that the issue is believed to occur when switching frequencies; because the lag is allegedly not calibrated correctly, it results in the device reporting "no service" rather than switching to the frequency with the best signal to noise ratio.

But would I really rig it if a solution wasn't presented?

Yes, I definitely would. My life is Apple integrated. I'm not scared to admit that. I haven't found a solution that works better for what I like to do.

It doesn't fit everybody, but the iPhone is the single most popular handset device in the world. They have to be doing something right.

Yeah, the iPhone is moving quickly, but Symbian has been the runaway leader for years, although to be fair they do count some questionable phones as 'smartphones'.

The graphs are going to go weird for a while too, since Symbian is being retired.

Symbian and RIM make more than 1 handset. You're referring to brand market share.

Apple makes 1 phone. I was referring to a single handset.

No...Apple makes 4 handsets...they just all look the same ;)

Additionally, in Q1 '10, Apple market share grew by 4.9% while during the same period, Android grew by 8% (overtaking windows mobile).

I would say Android is gaining market share at the expense of WinMo.

Yep, and for good reason...

Yeah, nothing great has come from them in years. If anything, I remember a clunky OS that just wasn't well suited for mobile phones in recent times.

I'm debating if I want to sell my 3GS and get a 4G. It's definitely tempting.

Although, I will admit that AT&T has really pissed me off lately and I almost want to get out of my contract and go to Verizon after their stupid shenanigans. No way am I paying an ETF, though, which means I'm stuck until June of next year. :(

in essence, all RIM phones are the same minus the casing. some are touch, some arnt, but the OS is the same.

i will say. since getting the latest blackberry OS on my storm, ive had, only 1 problem, and thats every time i use a new charger, it wont recognize it, so i have to do a hard reset (pull the battery) and then it recognizes the charger. other then that, the new OS is wonderful and fast.

How? Apple makes the iPhone. That's it. They've had 3 updates to it, but it's a single handset.

RIM makes the Storm, which has had multiple versions.

But they also make about 50+ other phones.

Same thing with the Droid.

If you want to talk about the operating system, Apple isn't #1 in the world, as seen on the chart.

But if you want to talk about the success of a single smartphone, I'm not sure how anyone can argue against the iPhone.

And Apple's done it all while being on one shitty carrier in the US.

thats apples fault for being with one carrier.

the smart phone market has plateaued, and android is really making a run for the marbles. the main problem i have with android phones is they are fuckin ugly. simple = better. i mean casing wise. shit, the latest droid has a, what 4.7 inch HD screen? thats fucking huge (maybe too big)

oh, and if you are going to call the iphone and its 4 versions 1 phone, then you have to call the blackberry storm and its new version, 1 phone.

What you fail to see Adam, is that it's not just one single smartphone. That there are hardware differences between the updates makes each one its own separate entity.

iPhone - introductory model
iPhone 3G - built to work with US cellular bands
iPhone 3GS - faster processor, improved camera featuring video
iPhone 4 - dual cameras, increased resolution display

exactly.

the iphones great and it has sold well and all, and it is probably the best phone on the market at the moment. but its not miles ahead of anything anymore. android is right there. RIM will always be popular.. whats the problem?

As there are with any updated version... Like the jump from storm 1 to storm 2.

I'm not going past this point, because you all are clearly focused on roasting anything Apple be it conciously or subconsiously.

It's the handset that works best for me and millions upon millions of others, and that's all the matters.
