Michalek vs. Volchenkov.

I think Regier tries to re-sign Lydman before going after another defensive d-man. If any UFA d-man is signed, it will be a puck mover. But to answer your question, Michalek by default because Volchenkov's price will go through the roof of his actul value.

It's not Michalek. Michalek only made 1.5M last season. Volchenkov made 3.2M.

Lydman vs. Volchenkov. I guess I stand by what I said - Lydman is a better choice simply for the price and better market value.

I just found it funny that people are talking about the above two players like one is mediocre, and the other is a savior when they're really very similar. One is a bit more conservative and not as offensively talented, but more physical and one takes more risks resulting in more points but has a slightly less physical game.

Personally I think both make too much money. by 500k - 1M.

I also like Lydman's game he doesn't do anything flashy and is a decent defenseman. Alot of people probably want him back but at a lower cost.

i like lydman, but he seems to turn the puck over too often. how many times do you hear "lydman clears it... but not out.." a game? too many.

that being said, outside that, toni is a keeper, and a solid D-man.

That's a reason I like Michalek over keeping Lydman - he plays nearly the exact same game, but turns it over FAR less.

Yeah, I think turnovers might be the only category where you'll start to see an appreciable difference between Lydman and Volchenkov.


But I think Lydman has performed better in the playoffs where he's a career +11 at roughly the same ppg versus Volchenkovs even rating (and he's been playing with better talent).

Both are pretty much the same like you've said. But Lydman will come cheaper as he is a bit older also.

I'll say it here as well, Lydman is one of the more reliable defenders in the game. He is high on my list, but if it comes down to spending another million to get a Volchenkov I would make that addition.
