There is not only no D in Kovalchuck, but signing him would kamikaze our kap room for years to come, and we'd lose Myers assuming we don't trade a big contract or sign absolutely no-one after connolly's contract ends.

I'm not saying Kovalchuck at all I'm just saying this team needs to add a couple of top tier free agents as long as the price is right and not no second or third tier free agents. This team is close from competing for the Cup it's just based on what ownership and management want to do. If they are interested in a free agent it's time they become proactive especially as soon as free agency starts or they will be gone.

I really don't know. As someone said, the guy used to be a champ dealer, but maybe circumstances have changed a bit. Has he adapted? Imo, no. The guy used to talk 38 million self-imposed cap, and had good teams. Sadly enough, we aren't that team anymore. 2 seasons w/no playoffs, and a hasty bouncing by the Bruins is not a President's trophy memory. It's also probably expected that no moves will be made in the near future. The guy really has become predictable. Maybe he still has something left in his bag of tricks. We can only hope so. He's what we have to deal with, and that's why I understand all the anti anti-Darcy sentiments. It is, however, a hockey message board, and GM criticism always flies around July 1st. Just take half a hydro, and wait it out.

I was born months before the Sabres started playing. I can't tell you how much I really want to see that cup raised by the Sabres. Sure, I have always been a huge Bills fan, a diehard Yankees fan. But the Sabres are my favorite team. Hockey is my favorite sport. It IS THE BEST sport IMHO.

Darcy needs to find some toughness. I like Tallinder, but let him go. Sign Lydman. Bring up Weber. Sign a good tough shutdown forward that can chip in some goals. Get a good center. This team is close to being a real threat.

Clearly SBF would give us the management team to put us over the top.

The Sabres got raped by the cap and free agency, you can't just replace all of that talent over night! I mean literally, 80% of the core was removed from the lineup, a young core at that! Considering that, I think MGMT has done a great job of rebuilding without tanking. Providing entertaining hockey while building a strong foundation for a brighter future. It looks like the team is on the cusp of that future, and things could accelerate quickly with a couple of key acquisitions.

I went through this with former Penguins GM Craig Patrick, once an epic wheeler and dealer, he got left behind in the new NHL. Rumor has it he didn't even haave an internet connection in his office! IMAGINE THAT, doing business by phone only! Hiring Ed Olczyk as coach after a rumored 134 applicants had applied for the job was the final straw. He also had severe financial restraints over the years, it was a tough situation for any GM. I think that Regier has been through some really tough years too, but the two things that remain at a high quality level are scouting and player development. He does seem to need a good free agency move or a trade to get things rolling again.

Oh I don't know about Buffalo being undesirable for UFA's...not when it's mixed in with places like Columbus, Pittsburgh, Long Island etc.
None of those places exactly turn on the charm.
I don's see a lot of UFA's trying to get a stint with LA or the Florida teams because the cities are nicer or have good weather.

I remember that poll. I still can't believe Buffalo had Edmonton beat by 6%, but to be fair that was RIGHT after Regier fucked up the Drury/Briere thing so that was still fresh in the player's minds (as well as what Grier said the summer before).

I think it's EFed up to even create a poll like that, what level of dickdom do you have to seethe in to even imagine that it's cool to make a poll about that? Jagoff to whoever is responsible!

Since it has been made, I can only say that SOMEBODY has to be at the bottom of it and most likely those are the teams that don't win as much. As a fan I think New jersey is the worst because it's like playing in a morgue. But if you like to WIN, it's not going to be at the bottom of the list.

It was The Hockey News that ran the poll, and it was one question out of a ton of others.

I don't find it to be a dick question at all. It's legitimate.

Well, Buffalo has had a bad reputation since the very early 00's when departing FA's (wanna say Peca?) started badmouthing the organization and management. Then it happened again when Grier (correctly) predicted Regier wouldn't do what it took to keep key players (after Grier split, so did Dumont, McKee, Drury, Briere, and Campbell). Hopefully, Grier's return to the team and the good things he said about the organization moving in the right direction beings the restoration process of the team's reputation.

Just so I can throw this out there for shits and giggles has anyone considered the fact that with Quinn and Darcy in the front office they will do the bottom line all the time... because they know we will still go to the games... I mean we all know that we will go to the games even if we are still not great... think about this scenario... we win only 30 games... and thats after a fairly decent season... we still are going to go to the games the season after that just cause we had a decent season... we would have to hit rock bottom again before fans stop going

Regeir does seem to be stingy with the purse strings, but I can't imagine an ownership team considering that as a bad thing. fact is the Sabres spent up near the cap ceiling last year and it looks as if they are going to do that for the foreseeable future. The players who bad mouth the Sabres and then went out to whore themselves to the highest bidder don't have a great deal of credit to me. They claim that MGMT isn't committed to winning then in the same breath go play for whoever wants to pay them the most. If you're gonna preach about team commitment then make a sacrifice yourself.

As long as they are near the cap ceiling it's hard to jsutify any accusations that they aren't trying to win. The Pittsburgh Pirates, now there is a franchise that doesn't give a damn about winning, but they make a profit every year because the PNC park is absolutely gorgeous and there isn't much else to do on a summers day in Pittsburgh.
