Jay Pandolfo just got waived. $2.5M for one year. I'd do it.

He's literally 9 days older than Grier.

I didn't know Mike Grier had a birthday? I thought he always has been, and always will be?

OK, maybe not too old. But the last thing Buffalo needs is an aging, 3rd-4th line winger who has never scored over 30 points in a season. Pass.

I'm totally on board for a Pandolfo/Madden/Grier line as the 3rd line. Gnarly, never-say-die type vets who (while old) would be a terrific defensive line. Oh yea, Pandolfo and Madden earned Stanley Cup rings as linemates in New Jersey. So they have deep playoff experience and leadership to offer.

Not a bad idea, but I'd just like to see the Sabres address some more pressing needs in signing free agents than a checking line.

Unless some trades are made, the needs that ought to be addressed are filled with crap players. Harder to do than signing free agents.

With Lydman and Tallinder possibly leaving, I'd prefer Darcy concentrates his efforts and $ on at least one D-man FA.

Oh, dude, no argument there at all. Either sign a PP QB (Gonchar, Colaiacovo) and promote Weber or sign a defensive d-man (Michalek) and promote Gragnani.

Pandolfo is another defensive guy we don't need to spend 2.5 on. We got Hecht, Grier, and Goose locking down those spots. Hey phil, there's your 3rd line!

Hecht-Goose-Grier. Perfect scoring upside, and has the "D" locked up.

WOOT!

If the Sabres picked up Pandolfo off of waivers, they'd only pay $1.25M for him.

Besides, moving Hecht off of Connolly's line is disastrous - what happened to them without him on the wing in the playoffs.

Forgot about the 50%, but ya. I'm sure the coach would juggle Jay and Jochen anyways. Which would be fine, because line juggling is fun(lol). I still think it leaves us with too much defense.

I'm guessing there may be something to this we don't know. Why they want to get rid of him, and pay half his salary is beyond me.

Kovy??

Apparently LA is by far and away the front runner for Kovalchuk so I dunno.

"2.5M"!!! What the flaknar!

He would be a good addition to the team but not at that price. I'd offer him maybe like, 1.1.

If he got waived and the Sabres snagged him, they'd pay half price. So, that'd be $1.25M.

I could swear I already posted that in this thread.

I don't believe he was on re-entry waivers.

Regular waivers = claiming team picks up contract as is

Re-entry waivers = waiving team & claiming team split the cap hit

LA has dropped out.

The latest rumor is Kovy re-signing with the Devils for 7 yrs $60M.

The Islanders were kicking around the idea of signing Kovy, too. But, I guess he doesn't want to go to a team that is that far away from really competing......

What appears to be holding things up is that Kovy wants something like 10 yrs $100M and nobody is willing to pony up that kind of deal.
