The FCC controls the airwaves in a much stricter manor than the first amendment.
I would have expected them to say something about it if his words were so egregious.

How do you know they haven't? I've never research filed complaints with the FCC. Should I just pull a childish Cross move and stick a "Citation!!!!" picture here? Just saying.

I had a simple point which has been proven. Rush is a piece of shit that markets himself as the voice of the Republican party. I'm done.

From the FCC's website:

What Is the FCC’s Responsibility

The FCC is barred by law from trying to prevent the broadcast of any point of view. The Communications Act prohibits the FCC from censoring broadcast material, in most cases, and from making any regulation that would interfere with freedom of speech. Expressions of views that do not involve a “clear and present danger of serious substantive evil” come under the protection of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech and freedom of the press. The FCC cannot suppress such expressions. According to an FCC opinion on this subject, “the public interest is best served by permitting free expression of views.” This principle ensures that the most diverse and opposing opinions will be expressed, even though some may be highly offensive. However, the Commission does have enforcement responsibilities in certain limited instances.

Well isn't that special. Seems they aren't "much stricter" than the first amendment but rather defined by it.

I'd put those in the camp of limiting free speech, but that's just me.

You argue like my wife. We start out on how I didn't do the laundry and by the time I know what's happened we're talking about that cocktail waitress I checked out 6 years ago.

for the record though:

...the Courts have said that indecent material is protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution and cannot be banned entirely. It may be restricted, however, in order to avoid its broadcast when there is a reasonable risk that children may be in the audience.

Between 6 A.M. and 10 P.M. – when there is the greatest likelihood that children may be watching –airing indecent material is prohibited by FCC rules. Broadcasters are required to schedule their programming accordingly or face enforcement action. Similarly, the Commission has stated that profane material is prohibited between 6 A.M. and 10 P.M.

Finally, the courts have ruled that obscene material is not protected by the First Amendment and cannot be broadcast at any time. For more information about these rules visit the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau Web site at http://www.fcc.gov/eb/oip/ or see our consumer fact sheet at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/obscene.html.

Well that's a far cry from the FCC being "defined by the first amendment."
One of the main reasons they exist is to limit free speech.

You guys need to relax. The reason that this forum is separate is so that these often contentious discussions can stay here and stay contained.

If you don't like that XC and DF are going back and forth, don't get in the middle of it. There's no reason to lock this thread.

Is there any way to show this as a hidden forum, say, from the forum preferences menu?

Does it matter? It seems like it's just us here until october...who do we need to hide it from?

Although why the arguing is going on anyways is beyond me, clearly we all pretty much know where everyone stands, NO ONE changes their mind, concedes a point, or even seems to consider other people's posts.

I take issue with a lot of what Cross says and how he argues, but neither of us is calling each other's mom a whore or anything. I mean it's a debate. I would prefer the political thread to be thrown in the bin but since admin thinks it's a good idea to keep it then I'll be here. Unless someone starts hitting below the belt or some admin person makes the decision to keep politics off of Sabres Junkie I see no reason to shut this thread.
