The man, the myth, the TSN badass Darren Dreger just announced the Sabres have re-signed Cody McCormick to a one-year, one-way deal for $500K.

I assume this means either Mair or Ellis are done here.

(Yea, I know, the FA thread blah blah, but this is a re-signing so I broke it free.

These are fairly easy moves to make because these players come cheap on the roster but are tough energy guys. I'm happy with the signing of Cody McCormick but more needs to be done. Still Ellis and Mair spots are there and this team needs a scorer or two.

Ellis is all work and dedication to the team, but a McCormick - Mair - Kaleta 4th line is not one to be fucked with. Seriously, would you fuck with that line? I sure wouldn't, I wouldn't at all. Hard decision :/

Let's say Darcy signs Madden to a responsible $2.2M per deal to center the checking third line. That would put the 4th line together as McCormick-Goose-Kaleta (when he re-signs). Boosh.

Madden is old and slow and was very good years ago but now I wouldn't want him.

He centered Chicago's brilliant checking line on his way to his fourth Stanley Cup ring. Grier is old and slow, too, but they're both masters of the defensive forward role.

Awesome, I was a little worried that McCormick wouldn't be back.

A one way deal? That ensures he'll be on the full roster, and 500k is cheaper than I expected. He'll rock on the 4th line no matter what position.

In fact I don't care if he's only a 500k 4th liner....... HELL FUCKIN' YEAH!!!

To add - Mair is long gone...I thought we all knew that. Ellis still might be back and I'd be perfectly fine with him bouncing between 4th line and healthy scratch.

Now the Sabres just need to add Brad Winchester or Zenon Konopka and re-sign Kaleta for a badASS fourth line.

I like having separate threads for each signing.

I do, too, but I like the thread to contain all the idle chatter even more.

I don't like this idea. I want another guy that can fight on the fourth line.

I think everyone got a good clear understanding of Mair's worth to the club last season.

Nothing against the guy, I love his work ethic etc. I just think Ellis brings more in a "one or the other" type of situation.

I'd take Ellis over Mair.

So McCormick takes two roster spots? That's both innovative AND cost-cutting!
