Why not resign Ellis to play in Portland. I think he would give a good example of effort and seriousness to the kids in Portland.

Because last time they did that and snuck him back up to play with the Sabres, he nearly got snagged by the Red Wings and Kings again :D

Ellis should stay, his work ethic and skating and good forecheck is reason enough to keep him, he won't score very often, but when that energy line was in the offensive zone, it got some good pressure on the other teams.

With the excess of potential AHLers that have a shot at the roster (Ennis of course, Gerbe, Mancari) and the fact that Regier still wants to add a forward, Ellis might be an unnecessary signing. I like him too, but there probably won't be enough room unless nobody else gets signed/traded for.

So McCormick takes two roster spots? That's both innovative AND cost-cutting!

well i was thinking of possibly signing a FA to fill the spot or possibly a trade(s)....GASP ! i know what was i thinking....sorry i forgot Darcy is our GM.....

in that case let one walk, and low ball the other player....if he gets pissed, bid him good riddance, and bring up a player from portland to take his place

Manning the machine gun on the Tyler Myers Bandwagon - just in case any teams have an idea of prying him away from us (3 GM's shot already)

Only one problem with that, Ellis has size that neither of those two players have and Mancari isn't going to be with our team next year, he's useless in the NHL.

Ennis and Gerbe can't play a third line or fourth line style. Gerbe has a better shot playing third line because he's not afraid of anyone, but Ennis is a top 6 guy and should be treated as one. We would be way too small if we don't sign one o Mair or Ellis back.

Worst comes to worst Gerbe or Ennis is in the AHL to get their skills even better and they should understand their time is coming very soon. Fight very hard for that roster spot and it makes sure the players are always playing.

It's great to have two guys who are NHL ready fighting with our NHL players for motivation to play and keep their spots on the ice.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like Ellis. Regier might wait a while though before signing him. He'll have to decide how much of a chance he wants to give younger players, or what new forward he might be able to acquire.
