Really, a handball is a multi-game suspension offense? That's like giving a suspension for puck over the glass or something.

Not JUST a handball.

An intentional handball that took away what would have been the game winning goal to advance Ghana.

True...but that seems unfair to consider the further consequences of the handball in punishment. I mean, it was a foul that happens in the game, it's not like he punched the guy who was about to take the shot, or did something else which is usually not part of the game, it was a handball, I dont really understand how they would justify a further punishment for such a 'usual' play.

Really. It's like taking down a guy on a breakaway in OT or knocking the net off in hockey. Do you suspend a guy for a game for that?

The Ghana player had a chance where a goal happens what, 80% of the time to win the game and he fucked it up.

because of the implications of the handball, he should have been sent off

that said, one game suspension, as is the minium for any send off offense, is enough for this incidnet

you cheat someone out of a goal, you should be sent off

Germany will be without one of their best players tomorrow - Thomas Mueller, because of a ridiculous yellow card. The ball deflected into his side and the ref not only ruled that it was a handball, but that it was intentional. This will make the match against Spain a toss up in my mind.

I wasn't able to watch the match today, but Holland (Robben specifically) certainly was diving around a lot against Brazil. I'm still happy to see them in the final since they are a talented and tactical team. If Germany can get past Spain both teams will have a full roster, aside from an injury or two, for the final.

I might have to take off of work tomorrow.

I'd ask if you'd been smoking something...but I think we've already had that thread :)

imho...NO WAY. Saying mueller will tilt it even is like saying pominville's presence will decide a sabres game, he's just not vital. Germany has such depth, such an astounding TEAM mentality that the presence of one dude will not make a difference. I'd say the same thing if Klose, Podolski or Schweinstiegger (fuck how is that spelled?) were out, these guys are so much more than individuals.

My call, 3-1 Germany.

It's because even though I know how damn good Germany is, I can't let myself feel overconfidant. Besides, Euro 2008 is still on my mind. If I wasn't so attached to this match, I'd predict the same thing though.

it's a good game so far. the refs are letting both teams play...spain is getting off a lot more shots, some of great quality. it's going to come down to the wire.

Jesus, 60 minutes in and Germany is laying a big fat turd, spain is killing them in time of possession, chances, and the score could easily be 1 or 2 nil at this point.

I would love to see a Germany/Netherlands final but we'll have to see. Germany's gotta wake up a bit

Not the same team without Mueller, but Spain's strength is defense and goalkeeping. I have to go cry now.

Is anyone with me for the mass suicide?
