gerbe is listed at 5'5, but its assumed by some thats a generous listing.

NHL.com lists Gerbe at 5'6" and Roy at 5'9".

Nathan Gerbe NHL Player Card
Derek Roy NHL Player Card

Roy is listed at 188 and Gerbe is listed at 173 also.

everywhere else has him at 5'5.. its believed he is 5'5, maybe 5'4. while many sites have roy listed at 5'10.

like i said, i have no issue with his size, i was a huge theo fleury fan. but i dont think he has the skill to make that small frame work. if he was 6'0, thats completely different. ive questioned his attitude problems, but he may have put that douchebaggery behind him.

still, all im saying is if the sabres can get some size and improve with him in the package, see ya later.

I go with NHL.com, they are actually the NHL's site so whatever they say goes for me.

If Philly wants cap relied, they won't want Connolly's $4.5M cap hit.

They'll want Ennis, Gerbe, Kassian, Kaleta, etc.

Basically, guys that are on ELCs and/or cost less than $1M against the cap.

Well, Gagne's PPG isn't too bad (.780) and he can certainly put up 70+ points. He only has had a couple of bad seasons (25gp in 07/08 and 46gp in 02/03). I'd take a chance on him to play on the top line with Vanek and Roy.

Sending Connolly to Philly wouldn't work, though, because this is a salary-shedding move. I would try just Gerbe, Mancari, and a 2011 2nd round pick for Gagne and a 3rd.

I don't think that's enough.

Kassian and a 1st for Gagne might entice the Flyers enough to pull the trigger, though.

What about Gerbe a 1st and a 2nd for Gagne and a 3rd? Kassian has a future on this team. I don't think gerbe would have a spot. Great player but with Ennis being awesome I don't think there's a spot for him.

Kassian is proving that he doesn't take his future seriously, with 3 or 4 disciplinary issues rising over the past year or so; makes me question his character, and possibly even his work ethic.

Ok, Kassian has a punch in a bar and a wreckless hit, big fuggin deal. Granted that hit was dirty, and there is no place in the game for that shit but he served his time, the kid was uninjured and Im sure the team has discussed this with him at length.

Kassian was a 13th overall pick (1 year ago by the way) who brings a Kaleta-like style of play to this team but with offensive abilities that would would make him a third liner today with the potential to play first line minutes in a few years. He does EVERYTHING that 90% of this team won't do, actually looks like he cares on the ice, is unbelievably intense and competitive and you wanna write him off already at 19 because of that? What are the other two issues you're bringing up? Questioning his character? Do we even know the full story of what happened in that bar? I.E. was he sticking up for someone, was he defending himself or did he throw the first punch?

I know thats a lot of questions, but thats my point....we dont know everything, in no way should Kassian be traded/packaged for anything less than a 1st line player with multiple years.

Yea, I gotta say Jay, you're jumping the gun here. Barnaby got into a bar fight as a rookie in Buffalo, and you've got an eterna-boner for Matt the Rat. Kassian has a reckless hit (Kaleta has one, too) and a broken curfew resulting from his girl not wanting to leave him with blue balls, too. Big deal. He's young and he shouldn't be punching people in public, but he'll learn.

As for his work ethic, I do not question it at all. The kid brings it, plain and simple. Even today in development camp, he was clearly focusing very hard all practice.

This is essentially, a much less long winded version of what I was getting at, lol, thanks phil. Point is, it wasn't drugs, or something illegal or completely fucked. Ive hit people in bars before but Ive never got arrested because Im not "famous" as Kassian essentially was in the place it happened.

Plus, he's stated several times that his bar fight was a big mistake and that he's learned from it. Sounds like it matured him pretty quick. I think the way he's handled it thus far shows he's ready to be a big boy.

I'd even argue that the hit he got suspended for wasn't as dirty as it's been made out to be, the kid's had a rough few months, but hopefully he'll learn from it.

It looked bad because he was flying across the ice and "left his feet." But, coming from someone whos actually played, leaving your feet can sometimes take away from the hit if you're in open ice and you're not throwing a Jimmy Snukka elbow. If you watch it on replay it almost looks like he thought he was gonna miss the guy and just dove. Again, not saying it was right or that it should be repeated ever because POSSIBLE consequences were terrible, BUT I've seen much worse and if it weren't for the CHL's uber crackdown on head shots (anyone know how to use an oomlaut on the forums) it would have been 5 games max two seasons ago.

If you're using any Windows OS, hold Alt and hit 0252 then release Alt and you should get a U with an umlaut over it :)

How about,

Tim Connolly + Gerbe + Mancari and 2nd roudn pick for Simon Gagne, and Forward Prospect Patrick Maroon

I think that's a win win for both teams. Philly gets back a big forward, a scoring forward, and a solid centerman, we get that ever elusive winger we need, and some depth, and size at forward.

I mean it's a lot of value to give up, but given Gagne's production, it's a lot of value to possibly gain. Plus both Connolly and Gagne are in the last years of their deals.

Little late to this topic here but I watched Maroon here in London and yes he did score a lot of points but he is a lazy as fuck. Also Gagne is always injured so no.

Wrong about Gagne always being injured. Over the last six seasons, Gagne has only played less than 70 games twice. For a guy who plays a responsible game, putting himself in compromising positions to get defensive advantage, that's not bad at all.

Okay but he most recently in 2009-10 and 2007-08 he missed quite a lot of games. Plus playoffs his foot was screwed

So we're willing to give Rivet the benefit of the doubt that he'll come back good with a repaired shoulder but Gagne doesn't get the same courtesy extended to him this off-season that his foot will heal?

I agree that Gagne is injury prone, but...

I think considering he played 79 games in 08-09, his injuries in 07-08 are moot. Sure he could be in trouble if he gets another concussion, but you can say that about any NHL player.

Plus, Gagne averages just as many games per year as Tallinder and almost no one called him injury prone.
