Lagenbrunner wont be the one shopped, he only makes 2.8M against the cap. And he has a NTC
The only viable option for them to shop is Zajac, 3.9M against the cap, 3 years. If Kovie only took 8M; we couldnt send them back anything more than 1M; so the package would have to be (Young talented forward under 1M contract) and 1st round pick probably.
Langenbrunner would waive the NTC to play with his Team USA homeboy Ryan Miller

Clowe is a nice option, but he's not an immediate need for the Sabres, especially with young tough grinders like Foligno, Kassian, and company in the system.
Clowe is more than a grinder. He could play LW on a line with Connolly and Pominville and allow Hecht to slide to the 3rd line with Gaustad & Grier.
Plus, Clowe would add some bite to the Sabres 2nd PP unit.

Calgary is an interesting scenario, but really, how many more defensivemen do we need on our roster? You can send them Stafford and Butler/Sekera/Weber but that leaves a gaping 35-40 point hole on our top 3 lines; with limited free agent availability.
I can pencil in 4 lines minus Stafford that look OK right now:
Ennis-Roy-Vanek
Hecht-Connolly-Pominville
Kennedy-Gaustad-Grier
Gerbe-McCormick-Kaleta
I think Hecht in the top 6 is better than having Stafford there.

I mean; lets face it, Burke is asking way to fucking much for a UFA defender to be. that leaves a gaping 35-40 point hole on our top 3 lines; with limited free agent availability.
I think he's praying that the Bobby Ryan situation gets really ugly and he can get the Ducks to bite on a deal that centers around Kaberle for Ryan.
It will be interesting to see what happens if Ryan re-signs with Anaheim.

There really aren't a lot of viable moves out there, other than rolling the dice on a free agent on a short term deal.
Thats the problem that a lot of folks aren't realizing.
I just want any UFA signings to make sense and not be signing square pegs to try and fit into round holes ala the Zherdev rumor.
