Come on Darcy, pick up a forward.

I agree whole heartly about this, this is a place to for opinions and if people don't agree with this then just don't post.

Anyways I agree with you BlueandYellow this team needs a bona-fide top six forward and if no one else see's this then they are stupid.

but do you see that Ennis COULD be that guy?

Not yet, they still need a supporting cast.

explain...

4th line - McCormick, Goose, Patty K
3rd line - Kennedy, Neids, Grier
2nd line - Pomminville, Timmy, Hect
1st line - Ennis, Roy, TV

Not sure where to put 'em -- Stafford Gerbe (portland)

ok I may have the wingers screwed up, left vs. right.... but what supporting cast?

A top line of Ennis Roy TV could be sick... Ennis could be the top line winger we need... he was ridiculous in the play-offs

A second line of Pommers, Timmy, Hect could be solid... Timmy and Pommers could both bounce back from average 2009/10 seasons...

and your 3rd and 4th lines are pretty set.... and with Stafford and Gerbe and Ruff's affinity for playing line juggling, it gives him lots of options...

So what supporting cast? You have a machine in TV, a young shifty kid in Ennis who was the best player in the play-offs once TV was off the ice... two solid C in Timmy and Roy.... Pommers could play a little better... Hect is a solid as can be 2 way guy who i hope stays heathy all year.... a great shut down line and a crazy checking line... McCormick and Kaleta centered by Goose is just mean!

Ennis is good but who knows if he is going to keep this up during a full season, they still need a FORWARD who has NHL experience who is not a third line depth guy. Also putting pressure on Ennis to be the secondary scoring is not that great of an idea IMO.

Wrong.

Why does everyone here seem to think that more goals means you need to sign a top line guy?

Here's how hockey works. You have 4 lines. If you can bolster your ability to score goals on any one of those 4 lines, you're going to improve your output.

Having Ennis and Gerbe up full time to play on the 2nd or third line is going to take pressure off our top line to score, which allows them to play more relaxed, rather than play uptight life or death all the time.

In addition, it makes us very hard to defend against, because you only have so many shut down guys on a team.

That's how we won games in 2005-2006, and that's how we're going to win them next year.

Bringing Ennis up as a top two winger requires Vanek to move to RW. If that's the plan right now then fine, but if Vanek is staying at LW we're missing a good RW. Anyway, as the roster is it could be...

Hecht-Connolly-Pominville
Ennis-Roy-Vanek
Kennedy-Niedermayer-Grier
McCormick-Gaustad-Kaleta
Stafford-Gerbe/Mancari

Leopold-Myers
Weber-Montador
Sekera-Rivet
Butler

Miller-Lalime

Forget about what happens on the top six, with Rivet probably missing time the defense needs somebody else besides Gragnani to fill in. I don't even want Sekera or Butler getting big minutes, let alone another AHLer. The d-corps is probably in more need that up front.

But Ennis also can play Center last I knew. You either have him or Roy switch from wing to Center and make it work.

If not, Ennis is still a younger guy and learning the opposite wing isn't or doesn't seem that hard, you're just on the opposite side of the ice instead.

The one line I really don't want to see broken up is the Hecht, Connolly, and Pominville line. That line was solid all year.

Easily solved. Move Stafford, Kassian makes the team and replaces him

Kassian still isn't signed on his ELC, and won't be for the foreseeable future.

I bet he signs it once things settle down over the summer and he gets some workouts in with the team

I like the signing. I don't think having a log jam with our top forwards will create competitiveness though. Still missing a piece. Also a lot of "Could be" being thrown around when descrbing the players we have.

Darcy already told us that's not going to happen. After Kassian's assault charge, the Sabres stopped negotiating with Kassian for his ELC. They're not giving up on him, but his first contract is going to be a ways out.

He could change his mind, it's up to Kassian.

1. If he conducts himself properly.
2. Shows that he is close to having an NHL game.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they give him another full season of junior hockey and see if he makes Team Canada for the world junior's. They don't need to sign him right away even though everyone wants him here.

Darcy never said he was ending talks permanently....they could always start back up, as this dude says, if he plays his cards right

I understand that, and never said otherwise.

My point is that there's no chance Kassian is in the lineup at all for this upcoming season.

Although this may be right, I think it due more to our logjam on the wings than it is Kassian not being ready or able to play in the NHL.
