Huh? What in gods name did EITHER of those two teams do to improve over the moves Burke has made? I gotta hear this one....

Well if you actually looked at those teams right now before posting a stupid comment like this. Burke has upgrading by getting a 7th d man (lebda) and a third line player (armstong), that is not a whole lot for a team that needs to probably overhaul the entire team

...and a recent Calder winner.

Huh?

Details aren't 100% official, but Dan Girardi has signed a four-yr, $3.325M-per deal with NYR.

Oh, my bad. I was convinced that Versteeg won the Calder, but that was Mason's year. Point is, Burke is pretty awesome.

Until he skips town, leaving the team with jack for prospects and picks...oh wait, he's already begun that now. He tries to cash in in the present with little disregard for the future, and it's only worked once out of the four general manager jobs he's had.

True enough. I don't know much, but I think if I'm a Leafs fan right now, I'm pretty excited for the next couple years.

It's going to take them a while to recover their future, but the five or six years that takes is worth ending a championship drought, methinks.

And a 25% effectiveness ain't that bad.

Except when their players get older and they have no prospects to help, then it's hell all over again.

Well, that's to be decided (where they get the cap space) at a future date. Prior to signing Nikolai Zherdev, the Flyers had a roster size of 21 with $577K in cap space. A team may remain 10% over the cap ceiling (which would be $65.34M) until the season starts to allow for roster tweaking in the off-season, so even if Zherdev got the $4M he was hoping for, the Flyers would still remain within that 10% buffer. Right now, the popular opinion is that Gagne is getting waived, which I would GUARANTEE result in him getting picked up.

UPDATE: Zherdev is reportedly getting $2M for a one-year deal. That puts the Flyers over the cap ceiling by only $1.5M, and waiving Gagne (and having him claimed or demoted) would drop them below the cap ceiling by about $3.75M.

seems like a pretty fair deal for the flyers.... decent boom or bust move.... whats the deal on Gagne? worth us looking into? why is he out of favor in philly? stupid cap hit, injury issues, inconsistency?

2 mil is on the cheap side for Zherdev. I wonder how deep Buffalo went with their (supposed) negotiations?

Considering Zherdev wanted $4M, my guess is he took the $2M to play on a team that made the finals last season. Just a hunch.

I'll take Gagne off their hands, and if he doesn't stay healthy once again, you dump him off without any real loss.

I'm sure Philly would take some salary dump on that.

It would be worth taking a shot, we got the cap space to do a risk like that for a year, if it means giving up one goos prospect and a draft pick I'm all for it, just not Ennis.

If they waive Gagne, taking him off their hands would just mean absorbing his salary and cap hit. And this is going to be the last year of his current deal so he wouldn't even be that bad of a risk if he doesn't perform.

Yes, but would he fall to us is the biggest question?
