I just saw this when I woke up this morning and am shocked. I never liked the Yankees at all, but baseball lost an icon.

feelings for the yankees aside, i always liked steinbrenner. he wanted to win and accepted nothing less. plus, in all honesty, seinfeld made him seem awesome. even though thats not how he was.

hopefully he leaves billy martin alone in heaven.. or.. where ever they might be.

Sad. that was an owner who did it right. Did whatever he could to make a winning franchise.

RIP the Boss!

Go Yankees!
Go Sabres!

TBN: Hard-driving Steinbrenner had a soft spot for Buffalo

What an awesome article. Little surprises here and there, but the biggest one came at the end of the article:
Quote:
In 1978, the summer after the Yankees won their first of seven World Series titles under Steinbrenner's ownership, he gave a talk in Buffalo saying that the city would be the first in line for a major league team if a stadium with 35,000 seats could be built.

He also addressed one of his biggest blunders in business — turning down an offer to get a National Hockey League franchise going in Buffalo.

"It was the stupidest business decision I ever made,"
he said. "This is a super sports city."

:o
