Quote:
Bob Sheppard, whose elegant introductions of stars from Joe DiMaggio to Derek Jeter(notes) at Yankee Stadium for more than a half century earned him the nickname “The Voice of God,” died Sunday. He was 99.

The revered public address announcer died at his Long Island home in Baldwin with his wife, Mary, at his side, the Yankees said.

Guy had a classic voice. I hate the Yankees more than any other baseball team, but I have nothing but respect for Bob Sheppard. Sorry I won't be able to hear his introductions anymore.

Yeah, it'll be weird for Yankee fans to hear differen't PA guys. I didn't know he announced for the NY Giants (football) and other squads in the area.

I was laughing at the length of the article by the AP press...and his nickname "Voice of God" Give me a break.

Sheppard actually hasnt done a game since 2008, but his voice will still be heard at least once a game. Jeter has a recording of Sheppard announcing him that has been playing at every game that Sheppard isnt at.
