not at all. i watched a few pirates games on the boob tube (internet) and i would seemingly always think, "how is this guy a cant miss prospect?" he puts up numbers, but im not sold on him being an NHL starter at any point. i see him, and i think andrew raycroft, but with a better glove hand.

The problem with Enroth is he gets beat high with top-shelf backhanders ALL THE TIME. He goes down way too early.

IF he had to be called up though, I'd feel totally comfortable playing him atleast 1/2 the time, if something God forbid did happen to Miller.

Oh, yea I can jive with that

And shoulders six inches lower to the ground when he drops down.

With a goalie making over 6 mil and now in a stage of starting 65 games a year, there is no justification to pay a back-up over 1 mil a season. There are six teams paying two goalies over 1 mil...

NJ - just signed Hedberg to 1.5 mil because Broduer is about done his worload needs to be reduced
Tor - Gustavsson at 1.350 mil because he's actually the starter while over-paid Giggy splits time
StL - Conklin at 1.3 was getting good minutes but now they have Halak
Col - Budaj at 1.250 mil was also getting good minutes until Anderson was signed last summer
Bos - Rask at 1.250 mil is the real starter while Thomas eats cap space
Fla - Clemmensen at 1.200 mil playing behind Vokoun

Only Florida is a scenario where an established starter was playing well and the team decided to bolster it's back-up position anyway. Broduer clearly is wearing down, Gustavsson was signed before Giggy, same for Conklin and Budaj, and Thomas is being shopped. The rest of the league doesn't put more than 4-5 million into it's goalie position, but Darcy should spend more than 7 million??? Why spend more than 1 mil on a back-up that won't play more than 17 games, especially when the real problem is the play in front of him?!? I get it that people just don't like Lalime, but there's not a better option for under 1 mil, and there usually isn't no matter what off-season it is.

What's wrong with trying to pry(by trade) Leighton or Boucher from PHI; or Hedberg or Osgood or Conklin or Budaj or Clemmensen or Auld or Labarbera or Elliot or Johnson. I'm not saying every guy here is a better option, but pointing out there are options. I think paying out another 4 or 5k to get 4-5 more wins is actually VERY justified. Especially if Miller goes down(as irony pointed out). Btw 1980, you think EVERYONE is overpaid. You thought Hank and Loods would get 1.7-2.

Any GM that gives up assets for a backup goaltender should be fired instantly.

If you can get one back for a salary dump, that's one thing. But why would you give up a pick or a prospect for a guy that only sees the ice 10-15 games a year at most?

I wouldn't mind Auld (I've been a proponent of acquiring him in the past, actually). I know he signed somewhere for $1M this season, but I can't remember where.

If you look at it from a 5 more wins perspective, it sounds a lot smarter.

...and I like Auld too phil.

Not really.

How many teams would have made the playoffs last year if they had 5 more wins??? I can't think of many moves a GM can make for 500k that can produce 5 more wins for his club. Sounds like a no-brainer to me. I'm not saying ship off our 1st or Gerbe for a back-up, but throw someone a bone to get us a capable guy is all.

God damnit Lalime IS capable, we just don't play for him!

That's not true, when he wasn't being hung out to dry, he performed capably.

Not when Miller was injured. He played good when the guys didn't, and a few times when the guys DID play good he let them down.

He isn't a great backup. He doesn't show up when he needs to.

4-8 isn't a good record for a backup. Of course, I'm ordered by law not to involve stats into this because they mean nothing. Right?

Guess not since you ignore his decent GAA and save pct.

Oh, Alex, do you mean his GAA and SV% that improved after leaving Chicago for Buffalo?
