Perfect.

Speaking of which, I'm seeing them play in Canandaigua on Tuesday night.

Anyone ever seen a show there? It'll be my first time.

I haven't but my ex-stepbrother lives in Canandaigua and loves it there, so it's at least a nice town.

bump!

jobs owned up and said the iphone has problems, and they offered free cases to anyone who has the new iphone. HOWEVER, he went on to say that HTC and blackberrys likely have the same problems, which they do not. so he deflected the problem away from his, sorta.

And in response, Balsillie and his co-CEO fired a salvo back at Apple. Nokia, unprovoked, also fired a shot at Apple.

Then a day or two later, HTC went on the offensive as well.

RIM's response is the best...complete smackdown.

Apple needs to fire their PR department, this has been sooooo mishandled.

Except for the fact that the Blackberry 9650 exhibits THE EXACT SAME BEHAVIOR AS THE IPHONE 4.

Has Apple mishandled these problem? I'd say so. But, all these other companies that are huffing and puffing about how 'their phones don't do that' are completely full of shit.

Nobody talks about the Nexus One, but when it came out you wouldn't just lose signal if you held it wrong, you'd lose complete 3g connectivity.

My 3GS. Happens there.
My old 3G? Yep.
My old Treo? Yep.
My old Sprint non-smartphone? Yep
My boss' Droid? Yep.
Nexus One? Yep.
Blackberries? Yep.
My girlfriend's LG non-smartphone? Yep.
Nokias? Yep.

ALL cell phones do this. Apple is getting worked because they made such a big deal about their awesomesauce antenna that really is average, if not a little bit worse.

EDIT: Oh look. Add the Palm Pre to the list.

EDIT2: Oh look. The Droid Eris tells you in the owners manual where you shouldn't touch.

EDIT3: Oh hai Droid Incredible!! (I know voice is annoying.)

I've been an iphone user since about a week into the first release. I have a 3g, and I love it, but since the new 4.0 update some of my apps crash and it's slower! WTF!!?

iOS 4.0 on the 3G iPhone is probably a bad idea. There have been plenty of reports of what you're seeing, but people are finding success rolling back to 3.whatever the last one was instead. 4.0 is gimped on the 3G anyways, not really worth it IMO.

Regarding my gauntlet being tossed down, my only point is to show that all these other phones are doing the same thing that their manufacturers are saying that they DON'T do. Not just one or two of them, plenty of phones from plenty of vendors. RIM and Nokia can eat Jobs' asshole on this point. RIM phones do it, and Nokia has put 'don't touch here' labels on their phones for years.

However, Apple HAS handled this poorly in general. They should have come out early and said 'We have some users reporting problems with signal drops when holding the phone a certain way. We're not getting many calls to Applecare about it, and we don't think we have a widespread problem, but we're going to take a look at all the reports and see what we can find.'

Instead, they just said 'There's no problem.' , and released an update to tweak the signal display. Maybe that should have been done, but the timing of it sucked. It made them look like they were just trying to hide the problem, or shift blame to AT&T.

On the flip side, they're doing one thing very right. Forget the bumper case. They're giving full refunds (no BS restocking fees), no questions asked, if you want to return it. They're letting you out of your AT&T contract too, so you're not stuck there either.

The guy in the Youtube video they played at the presser said it best.

"If you don't want an iPhone 4, don't buy it. If you bought one and you don't like it, bring it back."

eghhhh.....the difference is, most smart phones bury the antenna across the top (as in that diagram) where people are far less likely to grab the phone under normal use.

Apple decided to make it a major design element and that was a bad decision.

Pointing at your competition and whining that they do it too is not a good way to handle your own mistake.
Just admit it and move on.

To me, the ipad is nothing but a poorly protected laptop. I never understood why they felt compelled to design it, or why anybody would want to buy it. I mean, are keyboards THAT repulsive?

I have a macbook 13" that I've had for over a year now and I LOVE IT. Never so much as a hiccup with anything on the mac side. 100% stress free, everything is easier then windows and better IMO. I even run bootcamp, and I have winxp for games only on the other partition. A little buggy, the voice chat is not good at all and there still isnt a fix. Kind of expected they wouldnt want it to run better then mac. But the games run GREAT, I can play left for dead 2 on it and it runs as good as my old gaming rig which was much more powerful! It still amazes me, i wasnt even gonna install it because I thoguht it would be crap, but its perfect. I even hook it up to my HDTV and play the games.

The original iphone was impressive to me, but it took WAY too long for simple things like text pictures and horizontal typing to come into play. 2 years maybe? The 3g is a great phone, i feel like i have the 2 best products Mac has to offer even thoguh neither is the newest.

I just did the nest upgrade to 4.1 and its still running slow so im probably goign to go back to the old 3.x update. Like u said, it didn't bring anything new to me. I've never once desired to run 2 apps at the same time and I dont care for video either.

Yes, but when you're called out on it and say your phone doesn't do it, then you're a liar, all companies should have just come out and said, "Yes, our phones do that too, but the way we've put our antennae, it doesn't happen in everyday usage or regular handling of the phone."

But they went and said they didn't at all, don't lie about a problem in all phones.

Well this story isn't about RIM or Nokia, it's about Apple.
Do you think the average person is going to do follow-up investigation and discover the press releases by the other companies? I sure don't.

Saying "look they all do it" is not addressing the problem, it's defining an excuse.
It's a bad strategy and Apple should have been advised against it. That's all I'm saying.

The FCC mandates the antenna has to be as far away from the brain as possible.

Apple, being extra cautious, threw it on the opposite side of the phone.

It bit them in the ass.
