I have my GRE's tomorrow. Has anyone actually taken them?

I usually do pretty well (1210-1280) on the five sample tests I've taken. Most assistanceships in my field require a 1100 or above, but the really awesome ones want 1300 or above. I'm hoping the force is with me tomorrow and I can get 2-10 extra questions right. I need the midget luck from the lottery commercials.

If you've taken them, what do you recommend?

What testing strategies do you guys use on your tests?

Wish me luck, anyways!

I took them about, shit, I guess 10 years ago. All I can really remember is what was the last section then, the word math/logic problems. I think I did quite well on the other two parts then kinda stunk it up on that part. My problem was I didn't have a good strategy, specifically, I'd try to work things out in my head too much. That worked OK on the beginning problems, but fucked me up as they got harder. I would highly recommend WRITING THINGS OUT on those problems, making sketches of the scenarios, etc. I think that, plus taking any strategies specific to the word problems in the preparation books to heart would be important. Finally, I think I might have spent too much time on some problems and ran out of time before getting to all the questions. Maybe if you are having a lot of problems with a question, move on to the next and come back to the difficult one if you still have time left after answering all the questions that come after.

Good Luck!

I'm taking the GMAT soon. Studying for these tests are a bitch.

Math section:
Plug in numbers for the algebra.
One method Kaplan taught me was if the answer choices are in ascending, start with B or D. If B is right, then you don't need to go any further. If B is wrong and say you need a smaller answer, then you can choose A and move on. If you need a larger number, go to D. If D is still too small, go to E and that's your answer. If it's too big, then you know the answer is C. You can figure the answer out trying 2 numbers at most.
Rearrange equations so you get what you're looking for by itself

BLAHHH. I can't wait to see how I do.

Nice Pat!

So they don't do those word questions anymore? You know: "A garden has 9 rows of 14 plots each. Corn can be planted next to squash but not lettuce. Marijuana can be planted next to squash but not corn. Tomatoes can be planted next to corn, but not squash or marijuana, etc."?

Well you lucked out then. there used to be a third section they called comprehensive or something that was all problems like that, and it was BY FAR the hardest part IMO. I guess my advice was pretty useless to you then.

that was called the analysis section. apparently ETS realized it was retarded. now if they would realize analogies fail to show how intelligent one is.

in as many scientific articles i've written, there are still about 15 words on each exam that i've never seen.
