Probably not a big deal when you consider the fact that Rivet would be off the books by then, and replaced with an entry level contract.

While Lydman did cut down on the turnovers and dumb penalty taken at the worst time tendencies he's had over his tenure with the Sabres, I'm not upset that he's gone, I wouldn't have been upset if he had stayed.

The only real issue to me is whether we get the good Weber or the bad Weber this year to replace him.

IMO, that's how we should measure letting Lydman go to Anaheim.

Lydman is gone, he was never a big deal on this team anyway. People get fan favorite confused with star D man.

You oviously don't understand the importance of a player who exemplifies the fundamentals of a position. Lydman's turnovers aside, he's a damn solid defensemen who will compliment almost any second pair in the league. Oh yea, and he's absolute $$$ on the PK. And a career + player, to boot.

Most defensive defenseman aren't going to be in the spot light. The guy didn't do anything pretty but you have to remember a couple of seasons ago Tallinder and Lydman were the teams #1 defensive pairing playing against teams best lines. If Weber, Sekera or Butler don't step up believe me Lydman will be missed.

We don't agree on pretty much anything, but cheers to that.

IMO, because if I don't say that people will surely ask for my address and try to suffocate me under a pillow and or garbage bag

Lydman is a good D man. I think that. He helped us a lot during the playoffs. But losing him isn't very significant. He can be replaced by who I think is replacing him, Jordan Leopold.

Lydman has some downsides though. He takes penalties in bad situations, and he turns the puck over a lot. Not as much as the year before, but it happens quite a bit.

This is my exact take on the guy, too. If Loods is properly coached, and paired with the proper partner, he can excel. If you give him more than he can chew, he starts brain farting. If the Ducks play him properly, I may become one of his biggest fans.

Like losing Lydman is the end of the Sabres really? What the fuck.

Has Andy Sutton Signed anywhere? If not; could he be paired with a player like Leopold/Montador?

Just curious, as to thoughts and opinions on that idea. He's a crushing hitter, and would be an instant hit with the fans here.

Something tells me an Andy Sutton/ Jordan Leopold pairing wouldn't go so well... :P

It's hockey, if Ray and Domi could be good friends off the ice, then I think Leopold and Sutton could coexist in the same room.

Weren't Ray and Domi like, golfing buddies or something, off the ice, even?

I like the idea of Sutton crushing guys and showing Weber how to improve his bone-crunching hits, but why do I have the vague feeling he's a pylon?

Domi and Ray were very close friends, same with Ray and Barnaby and they threw down a few times too. Hell Ray and Barnaby own a business together.

Sutton would be a nice 3rd pairing defensiveman for under 2.5M; and he's pretty decent on the PK if I remember right.

Kind of an attitude, but Ruff would be able to keep him in check.

OK let's think here. Rivet is out to start the season, and the Sabres would ice Myers, Leopold, Weber, Montador, Butler, and Sekera. Honestly, I'd be cool with Sutton playing and having either Butler or Sekera be 7th d while Rivet is out.
