YIR,
They do have a machine. They used it all film. It coordinates their loss of consciousness and is just kind of assumed to provide that link to each other. Remember, only people attached to the machine can link up in the dreams, so it's reasonable to say that machine is how they do it.

Also, regarding the end, in every scene the top is spinning in during the dream world, it doesn't even so much as waver. So for it to be wobbling at the end signifies he was indeed back in reality. Besides, Michael Caine's presence said it, too - if he were back in one of his memory-constructed dreams again, Michael Caine wouldn't be there but his wife (and Leo's mother-in-law) would be.

I saw it and enjoyed the movie too, it was thinking movie.

Also in his dreams he never wanted to see his childrens faces either and he clearly saw them again. I also enjoyed the little teaser at the beginning with the old man, because it then jumps straight to something else instead of what it was before. I thought it was neat to see the old man being Sato or however his name was.

Also need to add in, when he was in the bathroom from waking up, he spun the top and it fell, also when Mal spun the top in the safe it never moved or wavered one bit. Since it wavered, he was in reality.

And they never said for sure Cobb was gone a long time, in dream time he was, but they only said he possibly couldn't return for a very long time since he was charged with murder for his wife.

Thoughts on the worth of a totem:

So, I have a problem with the totem idea. If you're in your own dream, and creating things from memories, wouldnt your subconscious be able to just make the top fall in your dream, so you think you're in reality? If you consciously WANT to be in reality, your subconscious would be able to manifest that in your dream, and make the top fall down.

the totem is more to prevent someone else from screwing with your dreams. if your dreaming then of course your going to know about it.

Wow, that was a super cool movie. Blew my mind. And whoever it was (don't feel like looking at who it was) that mentioned that the movie was trying to use inception against us... that blew my mind further.

I know my boyfriend said that while it was a good movie, he thought there were too many twists thrown in for shock value, which I think he's wrong about. None of the twists were really for shock value, and all of them were very well thought out (and super freakin cool). However, I still think I liked Memento better. Just my opinion. :D

This is put in spoiler tags just so I can feel special like you guys lol. Woohoo!

Ok, so can someone explain this to me:

Ok, so I was talking to my boyfriend about the movie last night, and at first I thought he was wrong about this, but now I'm not so sure. We were talking about the part when the truck goes off the bridge. Now, since Arthur was in the hotel dream, but wasn't asleep, wouldn't he have been woken up by this? I kept thinking that maybe it was because he needed to have a kick in the hotel dream, but that wouldn't make much sense the more I think about it. Shouldn't the feeling of going off the bridge have woken him up? Or is there some reason that he was able to stay asleep?

I think they explained that sometimes a kick like that doesn't always work when you are on the sedative or being that far into a dream, something like that maybe I am not positive though so hopefully I can find out when I see it again.

Airface and HP00,
HP is right, the impact of the truck going through the guardrail wouldn't be enough, but the truck hitting the river would be.

Phil:
But wasn't the truck going through the guardrail supposed to be the first kick?

Oops, right - yea they missed the first kick because none of them were ready. I dunno how it works, but it didn't that time. Honestly, I plan on going to see it again within the week.
