haha...um...i've not quite found that to be the case!

It's strange reading this conversation about my hometown, I feel like i'm not allowed to have an opinion because I wasnt able to find the education/career I wanted in Buffalo, so I had to leave. I see Raleigh taking positive actions, they just completed a renewal of this downtown section, and created this elmwood-esque neighborhood in the blink of an eye, it's suddenly the 'happening' spot. LOTS of new bars and restaurants, and they are ALL hoppin, there is the feeling here of expansion and growth. It sucks when I go back to buffalo and see that it's been pretty static (at least in the view of what you get when you visit a place for a week or two) in the years i've been away.

It's all politics man; seriously. And I completely see where you're coming from. It's gut-wrenching.

I feel everyone's pain. Squanto, most of us are not "shitting" on the city, that's far from the truth. We love the city and the whole area. The only thing I really don't like (and really never did after age 16) is snow. I love my little village(Lancaster) and all of the little towns and villages, I love how it takes 20 minutes to get just about everywhere, I love being close to Niagara Falls and Canada, how the local churches have lawn fetes, and you can't forget about the Erie County Fair, Chippewa strip, Albright Knox Art Gallery, UB, Canal fest, Taste of Buffalo, Allentown Art Festival, Italian fest, etc. I also love the food....God I love the food. How can you forget pizza and wings (on just about every corner), beef on wick, La Novas, Anchor Bar, Duffs, oooh Mighty Taco!!!!!

Like you, we would defend OUR city to death. I am proud to be from Buffalo. You can ask anyone I work with how proud I am to be from Buffalo. Hell, I still defend the Bills four Super Bowl appearances. Please don't say I'm shitting on the city. I am just expressing the frustration with how things change so damn slow in the area. Yes, its politics...all fucking politics and that's why I hate politics (I know, strange coming from someone who lives just outside of DC). I, for one, wants to see Buffalo thrive. I want to see excitement back in WNY, I want to see it buzz again.

Sorry for my little rant and I don't want to piss anyone off.....I just needed to vent.

Fine then, stop the bullshit talking about getting shit done and just get it done, and then maybe people will have a different viewpoint on it, the entire Rust Belt is like that, they simply talk and talk about getting shit done and hardly ever does it happen.

My dad said it took twenty years to do one mile of highway where I used to live, that's ridiculous. Get with it, and do it. Don't lollygag around and just build the shit you've been talking about for 10+ years is all that it is.

Answer me these. Why hasn't all these waterfront projects been completed, why so much talking about it? Why hadn't it been done 60 years ago?

All the talk is bullshit, the city just needs to go along and do it.

It's all politics man, pure and simple. Do you honestly think that the city of Buffalo is the one holding up the Peace Bridge project? It's an INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE. At least 6 years of delay were because the US and Canadian governments couldn't agree on a shared inspection station in Fort Erie to streamline traffic flow. Why? The US government wanted the CBP agents armed at all times, and the Canadian government didn't want armed agents of another government on their soil. (I don't blame them.) SIX + YEARS that went on until both sides gave up.

They need to expand the plaza on the US side to make room for the new bridge. They identified a block of land, and started eminent domain procedures to take those houses. The homeowners banded together, and have been filing lawsuit after lawsuit to stop the process. Is that's government's fault?

There are plenty of politics in play in New York state that you probably know nothing about since you don't live here and most likely don't follow them. Some reasons things don't get done are complete bullshit and deserve criticism, other reasons have some validity to them.

The point that we're trying to make is that making blanket statements about why 'nothing gets done' without having any insight into the context is pretty silly. It would be like me talking about a specific area of Roanoke that is having issues just because I visited there once. As Western New Yorkers, we get pretty pissed off when someone shits on our area for no good reason. Our rep is already bad enough thanks to our suck ass politicians. We really don't need people from out of town that have spent no more than a day or two here piling on.

im going to cover my ass here, and say that i hope you do realize my complaints were that the process of getting projects off the ground is fucking absurd, and the amount of hurdles it takes its far far far too many, and that i was encapsulating EVERYWHERE, not just buffalo, right? it just so happened that this thread contained proof of this, and hence why i was up in arms.

people talk shit, its what they do. i love the faces i get when i tell people i grew up in the shadows of the flint skyline. they dont have a clue about the city. just the crime rate and the poverty level. in fairness, theres not much else beyond that.

Sky, you're lucky you live on the cousin-fuckin side of the Mason-Dixon.

From what I can tell most people are going after their siblings, not their cousins. :P

Oh my freaking god, we went to this Arby's in the middle of rural Pennsylvania in a town called, I shit you not, Shady Grove. As we walk out of this hick Arbys, this like 70 year old mulleted guy walks in with a chick that looks equally old, has her neckline plunging well below where a pair of non-droopy tits would end and appeared to be about 5 months pregnant.

I was waiting for the goddamn dueling banjos to start playing.
