You realize the only goal we got came from a PP Kaleta drew? That Kaleta outworked and outhustled the Habs every shift? I have trouble understanding why you are calling out Kaleta after this game, unless you simply don't like him for other personal reasons I'm not aware of.

He's not calling out Kaleta, simply saying that Kaleta is rarely criticized when he does make a mistake.

It's not even that he had a bad game, it is that he had NO game.

He was waiting on the blue line looking to pad his stats.

In other sports, big contract guys don't get free passes, why should this guy? Everytime he waits on the other blue line, that image of 7 mil a year has to burn into the back of your head.

He is now considered one of the "veterans" of the team compared to the younger guys.

Imagine Vanek skill with Kennedy heart. That kid played a great game, not because he was amazing with the puck, but because he busted his ass.

And i'm not hating on him, i'm simply saying CHEERS to him having a MUCH better game on Thursday. Time to turn it up. Let's go BUFFALO!

Kennedy doesn't have a guaranteed roster spot yet. Once Mair returns he may be sent down.

Ellis plays the same way because he isn't guaranteed a roster spot on a day to day basis either.

No, above he specifically called out Kaleta as an example of a player who had a bad game but didn't get called to the carpet, but he has since edited it out of the post.

No wonder Vanek wasn't playing at the game, he was taking pictures with young girls during the game.

I think my biggest issue with the fact people calling out Vanek is that, you know EXACTLY what you get from the guy every season. 40 goals and between 25-40 assists depending on his line mates. Yet every year it's a crap shoot as to what you get out of Roy, Connolly, Paille, Stafford, and a few others on this roster. However Vanek is heavily criticized but Roy, the human turn over machine, Connolly the walking wounded, Paille the under achiever, and Drew "hangbanging" Stafford all just kinda get by with a few criticisms.

I just dont get it...but whatever, everyone is entitled to their opinion, unless of course it's the unpopular opinion around here.

Saturday night was a pleasant night out of Roy, but you know he's very fucking criticized around these parts, Jay. Connolly, too. Shit, practically everyone but Gaustad is criticized fairly routinely.

Yup. $7 MILLION for a one dimensional player.
And yes, every single fan has the right to call him out... especially when the $7 MILLION dollar man is lazy and wistful on the ice.

Since everyone on this board seems to hate Vanek i'm not gonna waste my time arguing about why he IS worth the money, since i'd get ganged up on and the topic might end in 2 pages, making this like the 2nd or 3rd closed topic. :ugeek:

Kinda like Max, huh, only he was worth about $3.5 million less?

Nah, go for it. As long as we don't degenerate into the taboo version of Vanek bashing, fire back.

I'm fine with Vanek. He's a legitimate elite sniper who can potentially pump in 50 goals. I just think he pulled a no-show on opening night.

That, and no one could ever deny his effort.

What I'm trying to say here is that there are a TON of over-paid, one-dimensional players in the NHL. Every team has their own to bitch about, except Detroit, those lucky fucks.

Vanek is worth the money because he can play defense and score goals, he may not be the best at backchecking, but his forecheck and goal scoring is great.

He isn't a one Dimensional player. He can play both ways of the ice, some people are too blinded by other players to notice what Vanek does and he might not be the player playing the player with the puck but if he is on the ice for a goal against he is automatically a terrible player on defense even if he was nowhere near the play.

It's one game, and Montreal was playing a boring defensive style that allowed more shots than Jacques Martin likes, but few good scoring chances either. They played "ice the puck" the 2nd half of the game while allowing mostly perimeter shots. People have to recognize what both teams are doing before jumping on one player. A much easier criticism would be to call out half the Montreal forwards, like Gomez, Cammalleri, Lapierre...they were non-existant. Problem is, Buffalo did a GREAT job keeping the puck and defending in the nuetral zone, so that wouldn't be entirely fair either.

This league is about defense again, and this season is going to be a long tough haul. Offense may not open up all season until the end, if/when the grind starts to take effect and players are to tired to play good defense anymore.

The way I've seen how a couple other games have been called, they're starting to let a lot go again.
