Anything over $2.0 million, I'd walk away from. Anything under $1.5 million I'm accepting on the spot. In between those two is a grey area where I'd have to think about it.

if the sabres wouldn't give a guy like jp dumont the 2.9 he was awarded in arbitration years ago, i can't see them giving tk any more than 1.2 million. nor do i think kennedy deserves anything more than that. at the most.


hopefully they give him one year 1.2 mil. and next season when he's not a rookie the team can reevaluate him .

I think anybody who thinks that Kennedy wont get what MacArthur got, or close to it is kidding themselves. Macarthur had 37 points; he was awarded 2.4M; can't imagine that 7 points would drop Kennedy down nearly 900K; I think we have right to be worried.

In arbitration you aren't allowed to compare this player to that player. We can as an outside party, but they can't. I just don't see Kennedy getting anymore than 1.5.

I really don't even know how to respond to this without sounding like a dick.

I know that they cant compare outside cases in an arbitration, but the fact still remains, MacArthur played 3rd line minutes, like Kennedy, has a horrible +/-, like Kennedy, and was only 7 points higher than Kennedy.

Comparing apples to apples, or not comparing at all; you have to think that Kennedy and his agent are walking in screaming for 3M, and Buffalo is probably around 850-950K; meeting somewhere in the middle, which arbitration is meant to do, will be around 2.2-2.5M

I know what you're saying, but I'm also saying that equal players, equal roles, and equal stats. How does Kennedy get nearly half of what MacArthur got?

Logic just isn't adding up to me I guess.

Arbitration compares salaries of players ho got contracts before this year and similar deals previously.

They essentially compare different salaries of players, the player tries to go with the highest contracts of the same type of player, the GM always tries to show the lowest of them.

And anyone who brings up MacArthur should probably know his ruling can't be used as a comparable salary because ATL walked.

Because an arbitrator awarded MacArthur 2.4M; it did happen, doesn't matter if ATL walked or not; it did happen.

Whats stopping said arbitrator from giving Kennedy 2M or 1.9M?

Like I said, they have similar numbers, similar roles, and similar stats.

I'm not saying compared to MacArthur. I am comparing the two players as similar situations, with everything being nearly identical.

How can someone expect similar numbers, similar players, and similar roles to get a different outcome?

I just dont know how else to explain it. One outcome already happened, and logically following, when the same scenario comes forth, you'd expect the same outcome.

I know what you are talking about. What's to stop these guys from saying Mac is worth 2 million dollars? We all know that he is not, maybe with time but certainly not now, and if they do give him these 2 millions of dollars do we bite the bullet and say 'fuck it, we will sign him' or 'fuck it he's not that good'?

MacArthur already is a veteran that has seasons of 17 and 16 goals behind him. He still wasn't worth 2.5 mil, but he at least had some proven production. Kennedy was a rookie with 10 goals. They aren't comparable even if they were being compared.

It's not even close, Kennedy won't get anything more than 1.5 mil. Buffalo will probably keep him no matter what, but they'll hope to keep the price closer to 1 mil.

Rumor is that Mac got a huge award because Atlanta didn't even prepare a case as Dudley knew he didn't want to retain him.

So, there was no team argument against the contract that Mac's agent asked for...

Mac is the same age and has more professional seasons under his belt. Those are the kind of things the arbitrator looks at. And like JB said if Dudley didn't even prepare a case than whatever Mac's agent said is pretty much the only way to see it, so he got a big award. Kennedy while having a good rookie season, didn't prove that he is more than a third liner right now. Macarthur was showing he could a top 6 in ATL. So in ATL he was worth 2.4 to the arbitrator. Is a third line checking winger going to be worth that much in Buffalo? Doubt it.
