That's why we have to register for selective service. There's no reason for this bill, whatsoever. A volunteer military is proven to be the best.

Civil service? You need people to work on government projects? Take all the guys in jail for not paying child support, for being too far in debt, or other ridiculously sentenced individuals.

I'd like to see them doing something...but not working on base with the volunteer service...haha! Seriously though, I think putting the prison population to use is a great idea. I'd just question their work ethic, dedication and attitude when it comes to military service...I mean they did do something to get thrown in the clink to begin with. Like I said, we have enough people who serve in the military for the wrong reasons who act like jackoffs. Maybe put them to work on fixing all these damn roads out here in Colorado.

I completely agree that two years or more of military service is something you should experience but not something you're forced to. The military changed my life while giving me a chance to give something back to my country but not everyone is cut out for it. Lots of things worry me when I think of mandatory service.

Separate the two Pat; they're not military members, they're doing work for free (minus the cost of housing and food). They're like ultra-low security prison, on work detail. Fuckin A, make them clean the mess BP made. There's plenty of work to be done across this country, and even if their work ethic is shit....one guy can pick up a thousand pieces of trash, or a thousand guys can each pick up one piece of trash.

My thoughts on this are fairly simple. I'm voluntarily going into the military, knowing full well the risks. The last thing in the world I want to deal with, is someone forced to be there, covering my ass if shit hits the fan. Because you know for a fact that guy didn't give a shit in training, and he didn't give a shit in briefing, and he didn't give a shit all the way through up until his life was in danger.

Any mandatory service to me, just puts more lives at risk.

South Korea has mandatory 2 year service, and it doesn't do much for them. Hell it doesn't even teach their people discipline in my experience, as my roommate is from South Korea, and he's a fucking moron slob.

No way no how do I condone mandatory military service in this country. Let the folks who want to serve, serve and those who don't, leave them the hell off my flight team.
