My phone is getting old...I'm keeping it for now though until I decide what I want to do next. Either get a new basic phone, or a smartphone. Having a Droid would be very convenient - I've spent a lot of time at places without Internet access lately - but it's also going to cost me $30/month for a data plan.

That's the part I need to decide.

so i went in expecting to have to shell out 200 bones for a new phone, and then they tell me my insurance covers it, i just have to pay a $50 charge and they'll send me a new one tomorrow. looks like i'm stuck with the env3 a little longer :( it's a shame, i was looking forward to a new phone.

- The pricing model didn't click with the average consumer.
- 3G (still) has issues on AT&T
- No telephone support on release
- Limited marketing by the carriers it could run on

Phil, are you kidding??? I'm much in favor of your use of Blackberry to keep the rest of us informed in a timely fashion. More reason why I don't need one!!! LOL. And yes, the company is actually called VOIP, pretty generic huh?

Squanto, yeah I know there are risks, I just haven't had any issues other than a temporary loss of connection. Besides, my version of calling 911 is reaching into my night stand or closet...

Hmmm, did I say "sound like" a grumpy old person in my first post?

Learn something new everyday - I had no idea a company would be that lazy to just name themselves VOIP. I remember back in the day before Vonage and Skype, I had something called Lingo. It was amazing.

The folks that run VOIP.com don't seem to have the best reputation.

it was 179.
it wasnt for att, it was for t-mobile and verizon, originally.

$179 was the T-Mobile on-contract subsidized price. If it was purchased with no plan, or contract, it was $529. Most consumers don't buy unsubsidized phones, so that price point didn't appeal to a lot of people.

The Nexus One was never released on Verizon. In fact, Google themselves advised people to buy the Droid Incredible instead.

Only T-Mobile and AT&T ever got this phone in the US.

ah ha, the nexus one was abandoned on verizon, but it was abandoned days before its scheduled release (i think it was that close). once it was abandoned, google then advised people to buy the incredible. but only after the nexus one was nixed.
