Our D was one of the best in the league, be on Miller maybe, but we ranked 3rd or 4th in goals against at the end of the season. Miller may see 30+ shots a game, but bad angle shots aren't going in and ones he can see aren't going in either. We don't need our d-men to block every shot, we just need them to clear the front of the net and let Miller see his shots.

The Penalty kill was really impressive too.

A strong penalty kill is a Lindy Ruff trademark. It helps when you've got Jochen Hecht and Mike Grier :D

aint that the truth.... Hect was missed in the play-offs, especially on the PK!!!! Heres hoping for a healthy german through 2010/11

Hecht does the little things people don't often notice that make or break games. Especially on the Penalty Kill.

Not to steer the thread too far astray, but excuses aside the Sabres lost that series primarily due to inexperience. That's no excuse either, that's just a cold hard fact. No team as inexperienced as they were has ever gone far in the playoffs. No matter how talented. Granted, the injuries were difficult to overcome but that's just hockey. It's a given that any team worthy of the Cup is going to overcome adversity like injuries along the way. But there's no getting around a lack of experience.

Now they all have it. Now they know that you have to have a lot left to give at the end of the regular season. A lot left.

Yeah, Rivet has always been one of those guys that bounced back way ahead of schedule though. When he had his knee scoped his first year here, he was quick to get back on the ice too. I think part of it is genetics, the other part of it is toughness. He's a warrior, better he's back sooner than later too, I don't necessarily think we need to have Sekera and Butler in the lineup full time

I agree about him being a warrior. I used to hate him when he was with Montreal and was pining for us to get him when he was traded to SJ. But, that early in the season he better be 100% before coming back, we really could use a big bounce back season from a healthy Rivet and the first 10-30 games should not be so important as to put that in jeopardy

I'm hoping a healthy Rivet will make Chris Butler not look so fucking terrible too.

If that is our d-corps to start the season I'll be pissed. Sekera and Butler are 7th d-men at this point. For one/either of them to get starting minutes isn't the most horrible atrocity in the league, but it sure as hell means that the d-corps (a weakness last season) is not any better. Willie Mitchell and Andy Sutton (maybe) are the only UFAs that could significantly upgrade that position, but even Jay McKee would be worth signing as a #6 guy to bump out Sekera or Butler (whoever sucks more).

Damn it, if only I'd thrown in Morrison's name I'd almost look smart. Still, that's the type of move I was hoping for to bump out Sekera or Butler. Now we could have...

Leopold-Myers
Morrison-Rivet (healthy and kicking ass)
Weber-Montador
Sekera/Butler (whoever doesn't get traded away)

I agree, lol. I think you'll see Morrisonn and Myers together, and Leopold and Rivet together though. Just a hunch.

Hell I don't care what the pairings are, as long as those two #8 d-men don't see starting minutes any farking more.

You're sure to get some bruises playing against that.

If the starting defense is Morrisonn/Myers, Leopold/Rivet, Weber/Montador with Sekera or Butler at 7th and Grags as the emergency call-up, I will be pleased with Darcy's scheming this off-season.

As how injured Rivet was last year I would like to see no more of him. He better be at least healthy this year if not then let him go or make him retire.

He just had surgery for a DOUBLE TORN LABRUM. His rehab is ahead of schedule, and he will kick ass this season.

Yup, but I hope he takes it easy in the beginning of the season. I'd hate for us to lose him for a big stretch for Craig to play hurt and be ineffective.
