alex, the red wings have a GREAT fan base. im not a wings fan, but these people are still friends and family, and brothers. its home. so i get slightly offended when i hear this stuff. i know its just a joke, but still. the red wings fan base is in the NHL elite. maybe not the way it was in the 90s, but its still top 3 american fan bases. i ask for the same respect for my home as you ask from everyone not from western new york. i think thats fair. even if it does poke fun at the team i grew up hating.

also, the seats empty are still accounted for and sold. those are all corporate seats.

modano, what a great player he was. good for him to toss on a wings jersey his last season.

....or he wants he wants to join the welfare department-like deep line of washed up vets who spent an uneventful year or two watching the sun set on their hockey days in Detroit.....

Don't get me wrong, besides ripping my heart out with Dallas in the Finals....I LOVE Modano but he doesn't need the money, hes not making any difference in Detroit or winning a cup there next year or the year after. I know its hard, but Mikey, you shoulda left the skates in Dallas.....or come to Buffalo, lol

But any other team in the league we can make fun of? It's classic fun, bud. We mean nothing by it.

Top three? Buffalo and Pittsburgh have better TV ratings, and Minnesota has their sellout record. I'd put them fourth at best.

They're still boring and obnoxious to watch. I'd rather watch Katy Perry and Ryan Getzlaf be dicks all over the ice than watch Detroit.

So we're not allowed to pick on or criticize Detroit, but it's perfectly ok to rip on Raleigh and Carolina fans? That's not how it works. Everyone is fair game.

I have to agree with Alex here. So what if a seat is sold and accounted for? In other cities, people actually show up and sit there. What does it say about a fan base that has a corporate seat that nobody sits in?

Chicago and Philly have higher raw attendance than Detroit, with smaller arenas. Buffalo is just behind Detroit with an even SMALLER building.

Buffalo and Pittsburgh are consistently the top US TV markets for TV ratings. Over the last couple years, Buffalo has been 3rd in Cup Finals ratings repeatedly, right behind the two teams actually playing.

Tell me again how Detroit has some magical unicorn fanbase that shits rainbows? They have a good fanbase, and I have nothing against them, aside from that bullshit 'Hockeytown' marketing nonsense. However, saying they're the best US fanbase is just flat out not true.

Um...irony, dude. This is a SABRES board. That's like if I went on a Red Wings board and asked them not to make fun of Buffalo. You're an established member here, so the sass you catch is usually in good fun. You're being overly sensitive.

Fuck Detroit.

Mike, you know he didn't criticize the city, right? Just the team.

I didn't make fun of Detroit. I made fun of the Red Wings because they're less likable than SARS and they put me to sleep.

I disagree. Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterburg are two of the most exciting players to watch. I love watching Red Wings games.

one of the best. i dont blast raleigh, i dont get why some people are compelled to blast fan bases left and right. if you are a fan, you are a fan.

there was a time, and it wasnt long ago, they did a study, and determined that the red wings could build a new 30,000 seat arena, it would sell out every game. times have changed, and while thats certainly no longer the case, its still alot tougher to get a red wings ticket then it is a pistons, lions, and in most cases, tigers tickets (though the tigers are, and always will be, the towns main team.)

still, its stupid to poke at a fan base that is on par with buffalo just because of a few empty seats. shit, you guys went ape shit when i posted that the home opener wasnt sold out. you yourself slammed me.

I'm just tired of seeing them do ticky tacky annoying shit and not stand up for themselves. If someone Janssened their Kaberle, they'd have the exact same reaction the Leafs did. Nothing, because it's a team full of eunuchs.
