I really like this signing for the Hawks, Niemi is definitely not worth 2.75 mil per year no matter if he has won a cup or not.

Then pick up Stempniak on a 2 yr deal.

Umm no thanks, I just wish people on here would stop wishing he signs in his hometown. He is not that good

You do have to admit he looked like crap in a lot of games in the final.

In maybe like 3 games in the whole playoffs. He was a big part of them, he's worth a bit over one third of what Miller makes.

I still think Turco gives the Hawks more stability in net now then last year

Remember the huge save Niemi made on Carter near the end of the last game?

Yeah I do but he was very inconsistent, he make one really big save then he'd let in like 3/4 really really bad goals

And to think, Turco at one time was commanding over $5 million a year.

I do like Niemi, and I do like Turco, and even though I would've kept Niemi...

Remember that time during the 06/07 High Powered Offenses Of Doom season when Turco had like 1.9 GAA and .950 SV% playing behind a mediocre team?

As much as I would've kept both goalies, Turco might work out very well in Chicago.

Still...I woulda kept both goalies.

Niemi's first NHL season, correct? Other than the Fin league?

Yea. Which is why I said I'd keep him over Turco if it was me and I could only keep one. The kid has potential, while Turco may be on the backswing of his career.

But, he might just have one great season left in his bones.

A lot of what lead him to having an amazing season rested on the team in front of him, though. I can recall a few games where he's let in some really bad goals. Then again, Miller was yanked while down 3-0 and Patty came back to steal that game against the Pens last season (Drew Stafford actually showed up for a game!) so anything is possible. I dunno, I think signing Turco gives the Hawks more stability between the pipes, but Niemi seemed like he had the mindset of Brodeur; A bad goal doesn't seem to rattle him.

I bet my bro is pissed they walk on his arbitration, though. The guy has the world’s biggest hard-on for him, lol.

Turco isn't bad, and Niemi wasn't a cornerstone of that Cup team, but he did perform pretty well. Chicago is just making a decision out of necessity. Niemi is the better choice, but not for their cap situation.

Whatever...I don't care and it doesn't have any ramifications for Buffalo.

First full season and he only played 39 games. Not saying hes not a good backstop, or even that he might not be worth the money in a year, but with so little work to show, I can see why they walked away from this offer, EVEN IF they did have the cap space. Niemi is most likely a product of the stacked team he had in front of him more than the cup run being a product of his play. When he signs with another team, I would be very surprised if he even gets the kinda coin arbitration thinks he deserves.

He won them a cup, at least give him a shot. They have Huet as a back up plan if things go wrong...

Huet gets demoted regardless, Crawford is backing up Turco next season.
