Golisano/Quinn are making up for spending over budget the last few seasons. I think the whole front office knew what was at stake in the playoffs - no extra playoff revenue, no extra spending money this summer. Now we're back to the self-imposed cap and penny pinching.

That's the real reason they were so down in the end of season presser.

They said they want room to call players up. That gives them the option to buy what they need at the deadline for a no bull cup run AND to move guys in and out of Portland to see what works and what doesn't.
