Touchscreen AND slide-out QWERTY, enhanced web browser, TweetDeck-like social media client, 5MP camera with flash, and the all-new Blackberry OS6

I have such a huge techie-boner right now

the ONLY thing i dont dig is a slide out keyboard. i feel sliding phones and opening phones feel cheap IMO. however, it seems to do EVERYTHING phil needs, and its a sharp looking phone regardless. i already like it.

There's some dispute going on between RIM and the UAE, I believe, but I have no clue what it's about.

The UAE wants to be able to see every bit of data you send, including the emailz.

Since RIM wouldn't oblige them, they killed it.

I got my hands on it today, via an AT & T rep, and I have to say, it doesn't disappoint.

The screen is seen as the fault, but I didn't mind. It looks like what i've been using (blackberry tour and bold). The new browser is a lot faster. Quite snappy if you ask me. I tested a few mobile websites, such as CNN and Crackberry, and they both ran great. It should be noted, as with many other phones, that the pinch to zoom feature is only good on the browser, not the OS. (Palm and HP had before introduced Calender zoom and such)

The slide out keyboard is actually pretty well built. In fact, it looks like they upped the build quality on the 9800 quite a bit. The screen can turn both ways, and the OS will adjust, as seen in other phones. As I only had the phone for about an hour, i did not get a good chance to clock any sort of battery percentage per usage, something that will come up upon it's release.

I think it's going to be a great phone in a lineup which has been lacking with the Android OS on the market. I am not an
AT & T guy but I will hope something with many of the same features comes to Verizon.

It should be noted, in unrelated news, that HP is officially going to put Android on it's next tablet. In terms of upgrading, I have no idea how it's going to work (marketing like a netbook or an ipad?) But it seems that the slate is alive again.

Archos is actually ahead of the curve on that one, as they've got Android on their 5" and 7" tablets. They don't have it on their 9" tablet yet (that runs Windows 7).

I'm curious to see how Android runs on a home product and not a wireless product. I'm also curious, given the hardware of the 9" tablet, how something other than Windows would run (this is Canonical's cue to announce a touch-friendly build of Ubuntu!).

Back on topic, I was really disappointed to find out that the Torch is AT&T exclusive at this point.

Yea I agree. But from what I hear, Verizon might get something very much like it.

And yea, I have no doubt that Android will be on laptops/netbooks within the next 1-2 years. A souped up version of course.

Android is the best option for a tablet simply because it already is based around the concept of touch. Any tablet released with Windows on it is a failure.

Agreed. The architecture of Android was built from the ground up for touch.

As having quite possibly the worst Blackberry out there, BB Pearl 8130, I like the look of that new BB. The keyboard looks really friggin small

Worst ever? You're out of your goddamn mind dude. I suppose this really is the definition of "to each his own", because you'll have to pry my Pearl from my cold dead hands.

What don't you like about it? The fact that it doesn't look like you're carrying around a Garmin in your pocket?

The whole Pearl lineup has some of the most reliable texting phones on the market.

I guess the only complaints would be if you were looking for power phones, like the new bold or the newer Torch (and much more into the android phones) but most BB enthusiasts are not.
