Some of you may have already caught this on the other boards, but I thought I'd mention it here too.

Scott Miner, the webmaster of the Sabres website, got back to us today with a little news. The NHL has FINALLY given up on the KickApps platform, and are moving back to the Invision Power Board platform. I played with it for a bit today, it's actually pretty damn slick. Scott asked us if we would be willing to spend some time there and moderate. I don't want to speak for the other mods, but I said I would.

We'll see what happens with it, but I thought it would be fair to at least mention it to people who may wonder why I'm over there at all.

Wow. Took them freakin long enough.

I'm in no mood to go back, though. This place is better than that one could ever be.

I wonder if I'll be able to get my old fly as hale username back.

ETA: I just went over there and it still looks the same to me... The same ugly white layout.

I like this place. It's stayed pretty private, and like attracts like so the members we do pick up aren't typical Facebook Sabres fans. The ones that have joined left after like three posts.

I just did a quick skim of fans.sabres.nhl.com, and they're not exactly winning me over with content;



Spammer, no doubt. But it's funny to see how bad the board has gotten since the NHL had to fuck it all up...

What you see at fans.sabres.nhl.com is not what you'll see with the new IPB set-up. A little birdy told me so.

This may be crossing the line a bit, but I always say what I feel, so why stop now. Sabresjunkie has, for the most part, eliminated(for whatever reason) most of the people who are truly antagonistic and mean(for lack of a better word). I'd rather we all continued to spend time posting here rather than there, and I urge you strongly. That site needs help, and is trying to fix it, but it doesn't need us, at least not right now. They may need Squanto's help to get it rolling, but this site doesn't need to, and can't afford a loss of interest. If X-Check wants to shut this down, and we all go back, then fine. If it means we'll be able to re-unite with old friends, that's even better. Whatever is best for "our" Sabre's community is what I'll do, but spending our time there is not what's best right now, imho.

Yes...some of us super special (short bus special) people have had access to a preview.

I'd echo Squanto's initial impression; it's modern and fast and the mods have real tools again.

Those are all the main failings of the kickapps boards that spawned the need for this place.

A lot has yet to be seen, but I wouldn't poo-poo it until you've seen it.

Regardless of what happens around here, I'd like it if my team's official message board were respectable again (technologically and content-wise).

I'm not 'leaving' SabresJunkie at all, nothing like that. I just wanted to bring up the change over there since I mentioned it in a thread that the site was changing, and I only thought it fair to bring it up here too.

Who knows what is going to transpire. It could continue to be a suckfest over there, it might not. I dunno. We'll play it by ear.
